In 2014, two English teachers in London identified a problem. Their students were struggling to understand curriculum texts and their excellent ideas were poorly expressed. This problem is reflected in data; for the last decade, approximately 40% of students in the UK have failed to secure a C grade at GCSE. This recalcitrant problem is playing out in classrooms across the nation and Bedrock Vocabulary is the solution developed by those two English teachers. Bedrock Vocabulary is an online program that teaches students vocabulary and supports their reading development. Since it started supporting schools in 2015, Bedrock has enrolled over 12,000 pupils on its program and is having a genuine impact on students' English confidence.
