Camunda was named a Visionary in the inaugural 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies (BOAT).

As a fully remote, global company, we’re rewriting the rules of modern business. Named GP Bullhound’s 2024 Top 100 Next Unicorn list, certified as a Great Place to Work, and recognized by Flexa for true flexibility, we’re growing fast and looking for top talent to join our team. If you’re excited to do meaningful work and make real impact, keep reading, this role could be the one you’ve been waiting for.

About the Role:

At Camunda, we care deeply about doing impactful work together. As our Manager, Payroll Accounting, you’ll build and lead a best-in-class payroll accounting function that ensures accuracy, transparency, and trust at scale. You’ll own the month-end close for payroll-related accounts, strengthen our controls, and partner closely with People Operations, Accounting, FP&A, and external payroll providers. If you love turning complexity into clarity, improving processes, and helping teams succeed, this role is a chance to make a visible, company-wide impact.

What You Will Do:

  • Own the global payroll accounting close end-to-end, including accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, and balance sheet integrity across all entities.

  • Balance hands-on execution with process leadership, especially during the transition period.

  • Establish and maintain clear, audit-ready documentation such as SOPs, RACIs, and process maps.

  • Ensure strong internal controls and audit readiness, maintaining clear documentation, standardized workflows, and consistent compliance with IFRS and local GAAP requirements.

  • Partner closely with People Operations/HR, Accounting, FP&A, and external payroll providers to resolve issues, validate payroll data, and deliver accurate, timely payroll results.

  • Lead process improvements and automation initiatives across payroll-to-ledger workflows, reducing manual effort, strengthening data quality, and increasing efficiency.

  • Define, monitor, and act on key payroll accounting metrics, turning operational data into clear insights that inform decisions and support scaling payroll operations.

What You Will Bring to the Role:

Must Haves:

  • Proven experience in multi-country payroll operations (US, DE, UK, SG + vendor models), including strong payroll accounting expertise (journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, cut-offs, variance analysis).

  • Strong general ledger skills and deep understanding of payroll accounting concepts (gross-to-net, taxes, benefits, withholdings, and employer costs).

  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with HR/People teams and external payroll providers to ensure compliance and solve complex issues.

  • Ability to oversee vendors, enforce quality standards, and resolve complex payroll issues.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to trace root causes across payroll, accounting, and compliance.

  • Experience improving and/or automating payroll-to-GL processes and controls using HRIS and payroll systems.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in a global, fast-growing SaaS or technology environment.

  • Experience with Gusto, HiBob, NetSuite, or similar payroll/HRIS/ERP systems.

  • Experience leading system implementations, migrations, or automation projects.

  • Familiarity with benefits, pensions, commissions, or payroll compliance reporting.

  • Exposure to internal and external audits, including designing and operating effective controls.

  • People leadership experience and a coaching mindset.
