We are looking for a visionary technical leader to build and define our Microsoft Fabric Practice.
As the Data Engineering Practice Lead, you will be the primary architect of our "Modern Data Platform" strategy. You will master the entire Fabric ecosystem—from OneLake foundations to Real-Time Intelligence—and lead the commercial charge to migrate our clients to this unified SaaS platform.
You will work in lock-step with the Data Visualization Practice Lead, providing the high-performance architecture (Direct Lake, Lakehouse) that fuels their dashboards.
1. Practice Strategy & Commercial Growth
- Fabric GTM Strategy: Define our service offerings for "Fabric Modernization," including migrations from legacy SQL/Synapse/SSIS to the Fabric SaaS ecosystem.
- Pre-Sales & Architecture: Lead technical discovery sessions, design end-to-end Lakehouse architectures, and write technical proposals (SOWs) for large-scale data initiatives.
- Evangelism: Act as the "Face of Fabric" for Devoteam, showcasing the power of a unified data platform to C-Level clients.
2. End-to-End Fabric Architecture
- OneLake & Governance: Architect the storage foundation using OneLake (shortcuts, mirroring) and govern it using Microsoft Purview (domains, lineage, endorsement).
- Data Integration (ETL/ELT): Master Data Factory (Pipelines and Dataflows Gen2) to orchestrate complex data movement at petabyte scale.
- Engineering & Warehousing: Define standards for Synapse Data Engineering (Lakehouses, Spark Notebooks) and Synapse Data Warehouse (T-SQL).
- Real-Time & AI: Lead the adoption of cutting-edge features like Real-Time Intelligence (Eventstreams, KQL Databases) and Data Activator to build event-driven data apps.
3. Team Leadership & Standards
- Engineering Rigor: Enforce software engineering best practices for data: CI/CD for Fabric items, Git integration for notebooks, and rigorous PySpark code reviews.
- Mentorship: Upskill a team of Data Engineers, transitioning them from traditional SQL/SSIS roles to modern Spark/Fabric roles.
Must-Have Technical Mastery (The "Full Stack" Fabric Expert):
- Core Compute: Deep expertise in Synapse Data Engineering (PySpark, Delta Lake optimization) and Synapse Data Warehouse (T-SQL performance tuning).
- Integration: Mastery of Data Factory pipelines and the ability to design complex orchestration logic.
- Storage: A deep understanding of OneLake architecture, including "Shortcuts" to external sources (AWS, ADLS Gen2) and "Mirroring" databases.
- Real-Time: Hands-on experience with Real-Time Intelligence (KQL, Eventstreams) for IoT or live-streaming use cases.
- AI & Data Science: Familiarity with Copilot in Fabric to accelerate coding and Synapse Data Science for model training (MLflow).
Collaboration & Integration:
Soft Skills:
- Consulting Authority: You can walk into a room with a CIO and explain why they should move from a dedicated SQL Server to a Fabric Lakehouse.
- Problem Solver: You are comfortable debugging everything from a failed Spark job to a permission issue in OneLake.
Success Metrics
- Revenue: Growth of the Fabric practice through new implementation and migration projects.
- Innovation: Successful delivery of a flagship project utilizing "Advanced" Fabric features (Real-Time or Data Science).
- Efficiency: Reduction in data latency and cost-to-serve for our clients via optimized Fabric capacities.
