The Finance Team
We’re here to make sure Marshmallow can achieve its growth into new markets and products. To do that, we’re building a finance function that combines strong technical foundations with scalable, data‑driven processes.
As part of the next phase of our Finance Target Operating Model, we are bringing core accounting and reporting activities fully in‑house and continuing to strengthen our controllership capabilities. We are therefore hiring a Senior Finance Manager to take end‑to‑end ownership of the month‑end close, financial reporting and financial controls.
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will play a critical role in embedding robust in‑house processes and supporting the business as it continues to scale. This role does not initially have direct reports, but you will carry significant responsibility for delivery, quality and control across core finance activities.
The Role
As Senior Finance Manager, you will own the full financial close and reporting cycle, including preparation and posting of journals in NetSuite, statutory and regulatory reporting, management reporting, and financial controls. You will play a key role in embedding robust in-house processes as accounting activities transition away from external providers.
You will also act as a key financial control point for payment obligations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, appropriate authorisation and timely settlement, while payment processing itself is performed by a separate team.
What you’ll be doing
Month-end close and accounting:
Own and deliver the month-end close across insurance and ancillary service companies, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
Ensure accurate accounting treatment, cut-off and high-quality records to support reporting, audit and decision-making
Financial, statutory and regulatory reporting:
Prepare statutory accounts, management accounts and regulatory returns (including Solvency II), with clear commentary and analysis
Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks (including GFSC and FCA) and act as a subject matter expert on technical accounting matters
Tax and audit:
Oversee tax compliance across insurance and service companies (including VAT, IPT and corporation tax)
Coordinate the external audit process and act as the primary point of contact for auditors
Payments, controls and governance
Oversee statutory, regulatory and operational payments, including review and approval in line with internal controls
Maintain, document and enhance financial controls and end-to-end finance processes
Planning, business partnering & transformation
Support financial forecasting, business planning and decision-making through close partnership with stakeholders
Lead the transition of accounting and reporting activities in-house and drive continuous improvement, automation and finance transformation initiatives
Who you are
You lead with accountability, driving continuous improvement and inspiring excellence in those around you.
Open to diverse perspectives, you embrace ideas and confidently challenge others to deliver the best outcomes.
Resilient and focused, you perform at your best under pressure and adapt quickly to change.
Strategic and detail-oriented, you switch easily between high-level planning and hands-on execution.
A clear, adaptable communicator, you collaborate naturally across teams and audiences.
Proactive and agile, you thrive in high-growth environments, taking ownership to make an impact.
Curious and solution-driven, you tackle complex problems with innovation and efficiency
What we're looking for from you
A fully qualified accountant with strong post-qualification experience (PQE) in financial reporting and month-end close, gained in the insurance industry
Strong insurance technical accounting skills (UK GAAP, quota share reinsurance accounting) and regulatory knowledge (Solvency II) are essential.
Advanced Excel and other MS Office skills are essential.
Exceptional analytical abilities and a sharp eye for detail.
Experience with NetSuite (or similar ERP) is a bonus, enhancing your financial reporting skills.
Proven expertise in building and refining processes for optimised operations.
Skilled at navigating and streamlining workflows in fast-paced, complex environments.
Able to operate independently and take end-to-end ownership in a lean finance function
