POSITION SUMMARY
The Payroll Operations Supervisor will play a key role in supervising day-to day payroll operations of the NFI Group payrolls across North America, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll processing for US and Canadian team members. This role provides hands-on leadership to the payroll team, supports payroll processing across in-house and outsourced systems, and serves as an escalation point for complex payroll issues.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple pay groups across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full regulatory compliance.
- Review and approve payroll registers, reconciliations, and variance reports prior to payroll close.
- Manage payroll processing across in-house systems and third-party vendors to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries, providing guidance and resolution direction.
- Ensure accurate withholding, approval, and remittance of all payroll-related taxes, garnishments, benefit contributions, and union dues in accordance with U.S. and Canadian regulations.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and workload management for payroll team members; ensure coverage, cross-training, and adherence to payroll calendars.
- Review team output for accuracy, compliance, and quality; support onboarding, training, and ongoing development.
- Partner with HR, Benefits, Finance, Systems and Payroll Compliance & Tax to plan, communicate, and implement process or system changes.
- Maintain strong payroll controls and support statutory filings, year-end activities (W-2, T4), and internal and external audits.
- Identify and lead process improvement initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and service delivery.
- Support payroll system enhancements, testing, and documentation; contribute to the development and maintenance of payroll procedures and standards.
- Ensure timely payment and tracking of U.S. employee benefit invoices in coordination with key stakeholders.
- Ensure all Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) within the payroll area are properly designed, documented, and operating effectively.
- Establish and enforce policies and processes to ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and organizational requirements, including quality, environmental, and health & safety programs.
