Position Description
Under the supervision of PPMI clinical leadership, an employed physician must provide culturally competent, patient-centered, and technically skilled medical care in the outpatient setting, in affiliate health centers and also via telehealth. Their clinical focus will be on abortion care and contraceptive provision, with additional privileges based on areas of training and expertise. Experience in providing gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and/or vasectomy preferred. All physicians must adhere to Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPMI) Medical Standards & Guidelines (MS&G) and all other affiliate policies and procedures. This staff person will fully embody a commitment to race equity, evidenced in all interactions with PPMI colleagues and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions
● Based on subspecialty training and experience, as well as PPMI privileging, provide family planning and abortion care that emphasizes and honors PPMI service standards and core values.
● Provide procedural abortion in the health center setting, including ultrasound and sedation services, in both the 1st and 2nd trimesters (according to training and experience).
● Provide medication abortion in the health center and telehealth settings, including ultrasound interpretation and follow-up plans.
● Provide evaluation and management of miscarriage (early pregnancy loss) and other early pregnancy complicationsin the health center setting and via telehealth when appropriate.
● Provide contraceptive care, including prescribing all FDA-approved contraceptive methods, and performing long-active reversible contraceptive (LARC) insertion and removal procedures.
● Provide thorough evaluation of the medically-complex patient and refer as indicated for abortion and/or contraceptive care.
● Understand and comply with Michigan State Law regarding health care, specifically abortion care.
● Work collaboratively with health center staff and telehealth staff, including health center managers, medical assistants, and nurses.
● Strive actively to achieve affiliate productivity goals.
● Maintain ongoing education and training through Center for Affiliate Learning (CAL) assignments, state/regional/national meetings/conferences, and board maintenance of certification if applicable.
● Regularly participate in physician meetings, through attendance and presentations.
● Participate in medical student, resident, and fellow training as assigned.
● Maintain proficiency in use of the affiliate electronic medical record.
● Participate in Compliance, Quality Excellence, and Risk Management (CQERM) activities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience
Required
● MD or DO, with active license in the State of Michigan
● Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
● Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives in collaboration with other functional areas.

Preferred
● Active Board Certification/Maintenance in corresponding subspecialty
● Training and experience in the provision of GAHT
● Training and experience in the provision of vasectomy
