Please note, we are only accepting applicants from the provinces of Ontario and Québec for this role. For Québec-based candidates, fluency in English is necessary because the position entails collaboration with teams based in the rest of Americas and occasionally in Europe.
As a Shopify Tech Lead you are passionate about building scalable and high-performance e-commerce solutions. You bring +5 years of experience, a strong background in JavaScript, Liquid, Node.js, and CSS.
You will thrive in this role if you are:
- Liaising with team members, management, and clients to ensure projects are completed to standard
- Identifying risks and forming contingency plans as soon as possible
- Motivating staff and creating a space where they can ask questions and voice their concerns.
- Being transparent with the team about challenges, failures, and successes
Role responsibilities
- Working alongside our project owners, solution architects, QA team, and tech leads to deliver high-quality, high-performance eCommerce solutions within the deadlines and budgets of our clients.
- Providing solutions to full-stack problems within Shopify best practices.
- Writing elegant and high-performing code on the Shopify platform.
- Participating in story refinement and requirements analysis.
- Developing solutions according to user stories.
- Following agile methodology (Scrum).
- Creating clear and maintainable technical deliverables, such as designs, documentation, and prototypes.
- Ensuring secure development practices and adhering to established standards.
- Enhancing the technical aspects of the product by identifying issues and problems in architecture, performance, code, or processes.
Must have qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:
- Strong experience in Shopify full-stack development.
- Proficiency in Liquid, JavaScript, Node.js, and CSS.
- Knowledge of Core Web Vitals.
- Hands-on experience with SASS or LESS.
- Experience in responsive development and best practices.
- Proficiency with build tools like npm, Webpack, and Gulp.
- Experience working with GraphQL and RESTful APIs.
- Knowledge of source control management using Git
- Basic understanding of technical SEO principles.
- Experience working in Scrum environments.
- Leadership Experience
Nice to have qualifications
- Experience with Next.js. Or Remix.js
- Experience working on Adobe Commerce/Magento
- Familiarity with functional programming concepts.
- Experience working with other e-commerce platforms
- Knowledge of testing frameworks such as Mocha, Jasmine, or Jest.
- Experience with state management libraries (Redux, MobX, or similar).
- Understanding of Server-Side Rendering (SSR) methods and Headless CMS solutions.

The benefits
This is a Permanent position based in Canada The offered salary range is $100k to $120k CAD annually, depending on experience and location.
Valtech offers a comprehensive benefits package effective after three months of continuous service:
- A comprehensive insurance plan, where you can choose the module that best suits your needs—Gold, Silver, or Bronze. The employer may contribute up to 80% of your coverage depending on the selected module. This plan includes short- and long-term disability coverage.
- Dialogue via Sun Life provides virtual healthcare services, allowing you to consult with a healthcare professional for emergencies, prescription renewals, and more. You also have access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program, as well as a complete mental health support program.

- A retirement plan where Valtech will match 100% of your RRSP contributions through a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), up to a maximum of 4%. You can start contributing to your RRSP immediately, and to the DPSP after 3 months. The vesting of the DPSP will be after a 24 months of service.
