OVERVIEW
The Senior Spanish (Latam) Linguist ensures high-quality linguistic deliverables by managing translation and copy-editing tasks, coordinating with freelancers and agencies, and maintaining key language resources. They handle terminology and style queries, collaborate with clients and internal teams to improve workflows, and support overall quality efforts through editing and error arbitration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performing copy-editing and on-demand translation tasks for assigned projects and accounts
- Serving as Lead Linguist on designated accounts to ensure linguistic quality and consistency
- Taking ownership of deliveries that are translated internally or by external partners, for one or more accounts, into the target language
- Preparing, managing, and maintaining language materials (including glossaries, style guides, and work instructions), ensuring they meet quality standards and are kept up to date according to project or account requirements
- Managing project-related queries and resolving questions on terminology and language matters
- Coordinating with freelancers, agencies, and internal linguists on assigned projects or accounts, ensuring effective collaboration among all team members
- Testing and qualifying new freelancers and vendors in line with project, account, and quality requirements
- Developing and delivering training for internal linguists and new or existing freelancers, aligned with account and Welocalize’s requirements
- Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as required
- Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of working processes
- Meeting or exceeding KPIs in terms of productivity, on time delivery, and quality
- Achieving the goals set by the Team Manager
REQUIREMENTS
- Education Level: University degree in Translation, Applied Languages, or Linguistic Studies, or equivalent education and experience (degree in another field plus 2 years of full-time translation experience, or 5 years of full-time professional translation experience)
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) and native proficiency in LATAM Spanish
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in translation, localization, editing, and content writing
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in linguistic review
- In-depth understanding of localization workflows and processes
- Excellent command of terminology across a wide range of subject areas
- Acting as a subject-matter expert within Welocalize for assigned content specialties, service lines, and processes
- Excellent user-level experience with standard CAT tools (e.g. XTM, SDL Trados Studio), issue-tracking and query management tools (e.g. Jira), and standard software (e.g. Windows, Microsoft Office)
- Strong ability to quickly learn and adapt to new localization tools
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to coordinate internal and external translators
- Demonstrated ability to deliver clear, concise, and constructive feedback
- Ability and willingness to train, teach, and mentor others, and to actively pass on knowledge
- Ability to work with tight deadlines
- Excellent problem-solving skills
