billups is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and analytical Controller to join our EMEA finance team, based in our Amsterdam office.
This role is the perfect "next step" for someone with 3-5 years of experience currently working as a Junior Controller, or Financial Analyst. It is also an ideal fit for someone looking to transition from an accounting reporting role into a dynamic Business Controller role, or for a Junior Analyst with Shared Service Center (SSC) experience, who possesses an understanding of financial reporting standards, auditing requirements and UK market knowledge and occasionally can travel (UK).
Based in our Amsterdam hub, you will serve as the primary financial controller for our UK operations, acting as the "right hand" to the Finance Manager EMEA. This role balances full ownership of the UK entity with strategic support for the broader EMEA region, ensuring seamless collaboration between the UK business and our Shared Service Center (SSC).
The Controller ensures ethics, accuracy, financial clarity and transparency while recommending and leading initiatives to improve efficiency and reporting insight.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred.
Minimum 3+ yrs of experience in a Controller or Analyst role and ready for entity ownership; OOH, media, or advertising industry experience preferred.
Proven experience in UK Entity Management and UK GAAP/compliance.
Strong foundation in accounting, financial analytics, budgeting and financial reporting
Analytical mindset and strong technical GL oversight paired with "big-picture" of financial reporting.
Systems Proficiency: Experience with ERP implementations and advanced financial modeling.
SSC Savvy: Background in Shared Service Center with expertise in remote team alignment is a pre.
High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, ERP systems and BI applications (preferred).
Experience working in fast-paced, multinational, multicurrency environments (strong plus).
Proactive attitude and hands-on team player with a high level of personal accountability and flexible, international mindset.
Ability to collaborate, communicate and engage effectively with various (global) stakeholders at different levels.
Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Fluent in written and spoken English; Dutch is a plus.
Strong ability to prioritize workloads and consistently meet tight deadlines.
Effective communicator with a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
Ability to travel abroad on occasion if required.
Key Responsibilities
The Controller directly oversees UK entities and supports the Finance Manager EMEA with:
UK Entity Ownership: Manage all financial activities for the UK businesses, ensuring local operational excellence.
SSC Supervision: Oversee Shared Service Center activities for UK GL, AP, AR, and reconciliations.
UK Audit & Tax Coordination: Lead annual audits and tax return preparation with external CPA firms.
VAT filings: prepare and lead declaration Tax fillings.
UK Statutory Filings: Prepare for (file) fiscal and statutory reports to authorities.
GAAP Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to US GAAP, Local GAAP, and regional tax regulations.
Strategic Reporting: Deliver periodic and annual financial insights and status reports.
Month-End Delivery: Execute accurate month-end closing, including journal entries and data consolidation.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Support annual budget cycles and lead UK forward-looking financial analysis.
EMEA Collaboration: Provide regional "cover-up" and support for other EMEA countries to maintain continuity.
Trend Analysis: Identify financial risks and trends, proactively recommending corrective actions.
Process Evolution: Implement global financial policies, internal controls, and reporting systems.
Pro-active ERP Implementation: Contact person within Finance for the UK financial reporting system.
