We are looking for a Security Controls Intern to help ensure the effectiveness of our security controls. You will review, test, and document control activities using data-driven techniques to support compliance and risk management efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in security control reviews and help test control activities, using data from security tools to capture evidence.
- You will help identify potential gaps in controls and support recommendations for improvement.
- Help document observations, including root cause analysis and applicable remediation steps, and help prepare reports on control performance.
- Follow established testing methodologies and apply data-driven techniques to support security control reviews.
- You will collaborate with team members and partners to understand how controls align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Pursue a degree in computer science, management information systems or relevant field.
- Interest in information security, cybersecurity and risk management.
- Familiarity with basic security concepts or openness to learn.
- Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks e.g., NIST 800-53, ISO 27001/27002, CIS Controls, COBIT.
- English proficiency of at least B2.
- Be available 36 hours of the week for the internship.
- Be enrolled in the university for the next 9 months of the internship.
- Be available to start in May 2026.
- You will receive a subsidy of $1,000 a month for the 9-month internship.
This is a home-based internship in Costa Rica. No relocation available.
