Sales and Use Tax Manager

Location: Remote (USA only — PST hours preferred) with some office travel required

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sales and Use Tax Manager to join our Finance Operations Team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring compliance with US sales and use tax regulations, supporting audits, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to manage tax-related processes efficiently. You will leverage your expertise to provide accurate taxability determinations, manage filings, and drive process improvements through technology and automation. Job Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of sales and use tax laws to various goods and services, including exemptions, managed services, SaaS, and marketplace facilitator rules.
• Coordinate sales and use tax filings and payments with internal stakeholders, ensuring tax rules are set up properly on the online sales platform, including Shopify and Stripe.
• Download and review system reports to support regular sales and use tax filings, including but not limited to U. S. A. and Canada.
• Conduct sales and use tax research to resolve issues or anomalies, collaborating with internal teams, third parties, and customers.
• Perform sales and use tax accruals, evaluate unreconciled balances, and assist with resolution.
• Communicate with Accounting Team on the proper accrual and treatment of sales taxes.
• Support sales and use tax audits by gathering documentation (e.g., general ledger, invoices, purchase orders) and responding to state notices and assessment inquiries.
• Manage business registrations for new locations and renewals of existing ones.
• Perform research and provide analysis on sales and use tax inquiries to minimize tax risk
• Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements to enhance compliance efficiency and accuracy.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in US sales and use tax, including managing tax audits.
• Experience researching tax laws and regulations and staying current with changes.
• Ability to work independently, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities with a strong sense of urgency.
• Passion for automation and building efficient, accurate tax processes.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of experience in US sales and use tax, particularly in the SaaS, gaming and computing hardware industries.
• CPA, Master’s in Accounting/Taxation, or CMI certification.
• Working knowledge of Vertex O Series, Oracle, Power BI, Alteryx, PinPoint, Avalara, Taxually, TTR, OneSource, Sabrix, or other transaction tax calculation systems.
• Experience with import tax and customs duties on international trade.
• Experience handling withholding taxes on royalties from foreign partners.
• Proven ability to manage and extract queries and reports from ERP systems.
