How your role will look like:
- Own and evolve our AWS OpenSearch infrastructurethat powers ImmoScout24's core search experience, optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency under heavy production load.
- Design and deliver innovative search featuresthat solve real user problems in the real estate domain – from semantic search and AI-powered recommendations to geospatial queries, proximity-based searches, and advanced filtering capabilities.
- Architect scalable backend solutionsusing Java/SpringBoot, collaborating closely with product managers, data scientists, and frontend teams to turn product ideas into high-quality features that improve user experience and business outcomes.
- Drive technical innovation in search and AI, bringing your expertise in search-focused machine learning, applied embedding and retrieval, ranking evaluation skills, and modern search techniques to help us explore and implement cutting-edge capabilities that keep us ahead in the market.
- Mentor and elevate the team's technical capabilities, sharing your deep knowledge of search systems through code reviews, technical discussions, and hands-on collaboration with engineers across the search organization.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improvesearch system reliability and performance, using data-driven insights to identify bottlenecks and implement solutions that maintain excellent user experience at scale.
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
- Minimum 4-5 years of professional experience software development and at least 2 years working with AWS ElasticSearch/OpenSearch.
- Proficiency in Java and Kotlin with hands-on experience in applying modern best practices.
- Prior experience in creating and managing AWS resources and familiarity with Infrastructure as code concept.
- Business focus, coupled with the ability to critically question and challenge product managers and UX designers.
- A deep passion for machine learning and search systems and a proven record of successfully delivering high-quality products.
- Extensive experience in designing, building, testing, debugging, and optimizing code for large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience in React & Typescript is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic, cross-functional team.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
- Strong commitment to continuous learning, curiosity, and knowledge sharing within the team.
