At New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), we’re passionate about helping New Zealand businesses grow internationally. The Capital Solutions team leverages our extensive knowledge and global networks to support NZ exporters achieve international growth.
We work alongside our export business customers to encourage them to be proactive in thinking about what funding options are best for their business. Do they have sufficient capital to execute, and the capability to drive a successful financial model? What options and scenarios should the business prepare for to enable growth? Our team also ensures the International Growth Fund (IGF) is activated at the right place and time, to support customers build capability and accelerate market development activities by co-investing in growth projects.
What you’ll be doing
To deliver better commercial and financial advice services and offerings to our customers, we are seeking a Performance and Insights Lead to join our team. As our Performance and Insights Lead, you’ll be at the heart of our team’s drive for excellence. You’ll turn data into actionable insights, helping us understand what’s working, where the pain points are, and how we can do better. You’ll work alongside the Director Capital Solutions, supporting them with strategic advice and helping to align our work with NZTE’s priorities.
Partnering with stakeholders across NZTE, you will drive deeper understanding of how we’re currently meeting customer needs and where the gaps are, and how we can make it easier and faster for customers to move through our pipeline, attaining the guidance they need. We’re always looking for ways to improve our systems and processes so we can deliver even greater impact. This role provides insights that enable a customer-focused and data-informed approach across the full range of capital solutions, including the International Growth Fund.
Your day-to-day will include:
· Analysing data and customer financials to uncover trends that inform decision making, ways of working and opportunities for improvement.
· Advising the Director and team on how we can lift our performance and deliver more value.
· Preparing and presenting clear, well-organised reports and presentations for senior leaders and the Board.
· Collaborating with Capital Solutions Managers, IGF Specialists, and other teams to enhance visibility and accelerate customer outcomes.
· Owning and improving our reporting, making sure we have the right information to measure demand, track progress, and highlight where we can speed things up
· Leading the automation and streamlining of our reporting processes, especially around impact measures like Direct Economic Impact (DEI).
· Overseeing team workflows, tracking KPIs, and following up on actions to keep us moving forward
· Using AI and data visualisation tools to drive innovation and efficiency
This role is all about being proactive. You’ll be the person who goes out and finds the issues, talks to internal teams and business customers, and comes up with practical solutions that make a real difference.
What you’ll need to be successful
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a growth mindset, blend of commercial expertise, analytical problem-solving skills, and a passion for supporting New Zealand exporters. You’ll be proactive, organised, collaborative with active listening and needs analysis skills. We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical skills with the ability to turn analysis into action.
We’re especially interested in candidates with commercial insights experience, understanding of the export sector, and the credibility to advise on effectiveness and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll be comfortable working with complex data, but even more importantly, you’ll know how to communicate your findings to support commercial decision-making at the senior level.
You’ll bring:
· Demonstrated commercial strategic acumen and ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships at all levels.
· Sharp analytical and strategic thinking, with a knack for delivering insights that drive change.
· A proactive, self-starting approach and the ability to deliver to deadlines.
· Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and presenting complex ideas clearly.
· Experience with data analysis tools (SQL, advanced spreadsheets, Tableau or Power BI).
· Solid understanding of financial principles, accounting, and financial modelling.
· Confidence working with both structured and unstructured data, and proficiency in Microsoft 365 and CRM systems.
· Commercial insights experience, ideally with knowledge of the export sector and the credibility to advise at leadership level.
· A tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Commerce, or Accountancy, or equivalent experience is preferred but not required.
