What you'll be doing:
- Drive the full product development process - from receiving the marketing brief from the Brand Manager to final product manufacturing and readiness for launch.
- Build strong, partner-level relationships with cosmetics OEM/ODM suppliers in China; monitor market innovations (popular products, formulas, textures, ingredients, packaging formats, etc.), collect new samples, and identify new product opportunities based on market trends and benchmarks.
- Participate in market and product research, including competitor analysis, niche ingredient overviews, international e-commerce review analysis, and defining JTBD and key consumer benefits for products.
- Prepare technical requirements for cosmetics products and packaging based on marketing briefs from the Brand Managers.
- Request, evaluate, and refine original and customized product and packaging samples from factories in accordance with technical and marketing requirements.
- Develop testing briefs and coordinate consumer research, including CustDev interviews, product testing, surveys, and focus groups; prepare conclusions and actionable recommendations.
- Maintain and update the product launch calendar and organize necessary testing and production processes.
- Prepare labelling content (warnings, usage instructions, ingredient list, etc.), collaborate with Brand Managers on claims, ensuring proper balance between marketing goals and regulatory compliance, and participate in packaging design review and label checks.
- Provide pricing and key data for unit economics, including MOQ, dimensions, certification cost, customization cost (molds, samples, IP, etc.).
What we're looking for:
- 3+ years of cosmetics R&D experience with Chinese suppliers.
- Background in cosmetics development and production is a MUST, for the US Amazon or US retail - is a significant plus.
- Comprehensive hands-on experience in cosmetics products development (at least 10 strong marketed products in a personal portfolio/background).
- Strong knowledge of cosmetics production technology/process, cosmetics forms/bases, ingredients/INCI nomenclature, PH/ sensory/organoleptic properties, packaging types, design/branding options, etc.
- Strong skills in cosmetics labelling, knowledge of US/EU regulations, requirements for ingredients list, warnings, how-to-use section, shelf life/best before dates, etc.
- Ability to create and update product launch calendar, to manage testing/production timelines as required (knowledge of Stage-Gate system is a plus).
- Experience in suppliers assessment, factory audits, quality inspections, handling claims, quality issues, and compensation processes with suppliers
- Ability to create product specifications and to coordinate their execution with factories
- Experience in maintaining product development records - formulas, iterations, labelling briefs, products/suppliers databases, etc.
- Confident user of Google Workspace, incl. Excel/Google Sheets (VLOOKUP, formulas, pivot tables), Mind Map/Miro/similar boards, task managers (ClickUp is a plus), Slack or other corporate messengers.
- English at Advanced (C1)+; Chinese language is a strong plus.
Additional skills we’d love to see:
- Marketing education/background would be a plus (for cross-functional communication with Brand Management and Design teams).
- The ideal candidate can confidently manage up to 15 products in parallel, each at different stages of development.
- Experience in the U.S. market is a significant plus.
