Position Summary:
iFIT is looking for visionary experts to join our Science Council Advisor Board, a dedicated advisory group shaping the future of fitness and wellness technology. We are currently seeking a specialized advisor with deep expertise in Behavioral Psychology to guide the scientific direction of consumer behavior, habit formation, and engagement strategies across iFIT’s digital fitness and wellness platform.
The Science Council will be composed of approximately five advisors, each bringing domain-specific expertise across key disciplines, including Metabolic Science and Weight Loss, Cardio Performance, Strength Performance, and Biometrics, Data Science. This role represents the Behavioral Psychology domain and plays a critical role in ensuring iFIT’s behavior change strategies, engagement mechanisms, and user experiences are grounded in rigorous science, ethical practice, and real-world effectiveness.
This is a fractional, advisor-level role focused on strategic guidance, scientific validation, and thought leadership rather than day-to-day execution. No exercise science expertise is required for this role.
Commitments:
- Provide high-level scientific guidance on habit formation, behavior change models, and motivation systems that drive long-term engagement and adherence.
- Review and validate engagement mechanics, gamification strategies, and behavioral nudges for scientific rigor, effectiveness, and ethical integrity.
- Actively participate in monthly Science Council meetings and cross-disciplinary collaboration, contributing behavioral expertise to inform cohesive fitness and wellness experiences.
- Ensure behavioral interventions are ethically sound, evidence based, and supported by current research, while contributing to quarterly insights and recommendations.
- Conduct research studies to validate program or product efficacy.
Role Responsibilities:
- Advise on behavior change frameworks including habit loops, self-determination theory, social influence, and motivation
- Provide guidance on consumer behavior as it relates to digital engagement, retention, and long-term adherence
- Review engagement systems such as streaks, rewards, challenges, and social features for effectiveness and unintended consequences
- Advise on gamification strategies that promote sustainable behavior rather than short-term compliance
- Evaluate behavioral nudges and interventions for ethical considerations including autonomy, transparency, and user well-being
- Advise on responsible application of persuasive design principles in consumer health technology
- Review and interpret peer-reviewed research related to habit formation, behavior change, and digital engagement
- Contribute to quarterly reports summarizing behavioral science trends, risks, and recommendations
- Advise on scientific and ethical risk related to behavior change strategies
- Participate in PR and media efforts including expert quotes and thought leadership as a Science Council representative
- Contribute to quarterly reports outlining cardio performance trends, insights, and recommendations
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, or a closely related field
- Substantial peer-reviewed publication record in top-tier scientific journals such as Nature Human Behaviour, Psychological Review, or equivalent
- Demonstrated expertise in habit formation, behavior change models, and consumer engagement strategies
- Strong understanding of the ethical considerations surrounding behavioral nudges, persuasion, and intervention design
- Ability to translate complex behavioral science concepts into practical guidance for non-scientific teams
- Ability to commit approximately 5 hours per week as part of a Science Council of 4–5 advisors
- Availability to participate in monthly Science Council meetings, with a mix of remote sessions and periodic in-person meetings in Park City
- Willingness to offer structured office hours through a booking system to support internal teams
- Capacity to support research initiatives and contribute to quarterly reports on behavioral trends and recommendations
- Availability for PR or media participation as a scientific representative when needed
Preferred:
- Experience advising consumer technology, digital health, or mobile app platforms
- Background in gamification, UX research, or behavioral economics
- Experience applying behavioral science at scale in consumer-facing products
