iFIT’s vision is to create the world's most holistic health and fitness platform, integrating all elements of health - physical fitness, mental health, nutrition and active recovery - into a seamless interactive experience. We develop proprietary software that learns and adjusts to the habits of each person as it delivers immersive content that guides them on their own individual fitness journey.
iFIT is looking for visionary experts to join our Science Council Advisor Team, a dedicated advisory group shaping the future of fitness and wellness technology. We are currently seeking a specialized advisor with deep expertise in Human Performance and Physiology to bridge the gap between elite-level endurance coaching and advanced physiological research, including VO2 max and lactate threshold methodologies.
The Science Council will be composed of approximately five advisors, each bringing domain-specific expertise across key disciplines, including Metabolic Science/Weight Loss, Strength Performance, Behavioral Psychology, and Sports Science, Biometrics, and Biostatistics. This role represents the Cardio Performance domain and plays a critical role in ensuring iFIT’s programs, products, and guidance are scientifically credible, clinically informed, and responsibly integrated into a holistic fitness and wellness ecosystem.
This is a fractional, advisor-level role focused on strategic input, scientific validation, and thought leadership rather than day-to-day execution.
Commitments:
- Provide high-level scientific guidance on aerobic capacity, cardiovascular adaptations, endurance performance, and training methodologies, ensuring iFIT cardio programming reflects current best practices and cutting-edge research.
- Review and validate cardiovascular training programs, testing protocols, and performance methodologies for scientific rigor, safety, and applicability across populations, from general users to elite athletes.
- Actively participate in monthly Science Council meetings and cross-disciplinary collaboration, contributing cardio performance expertise to inform holistic fitness and wellness strategies.
- Contribute to ongoing research review, emerging trend analysis, and quarterly insights related to endurance training, aerobic performance, and cardiovascular optimization.
- Conduct research studies to validate program or product efficacy.
Role Responsibilities:
- Advise on advanced physiological testing methodologies including VO2 max, lactate threshold, heart rate variability, and exercise ECG
- Provide guidance on the use and interpretation of gas exchange analysis, blood lactate testing, and related cardiovascular assessment tools
- Support research design leveraging access to advanced testing equipment and controlled performance environments
- Review and advise on endurance training models including steady-state, threshold, polarized, and high-intensity interval training approaches
- Translate complex cardiovascular science into practical, scalable training frameworks for diverse user populations
- Ensure training recommendations align with safety, progression, and performance optimization principles
- Analyze athlete and user performance datasets including workload, recovery, and physiological markers
- Advise on training load management, adaptation monitoring, and performance optimization strategies
- Support interpretation of longitudinal performance data to inform product decisions and coaching logic
- Provide perspective informed by experience working with elite or professional endurance athletes and teams
- Advise on best practices for high-performance environments and advanced endurance preparation
- Support the translation of elite performance methodologies into consumer-appropriate applications
- Advise on scientific, safety, and regulatory considerations related to cardiovascular training and testing
- Participate in PR and media efforts including expert quotes and press releases as a Science Council representative
- Contribute to quarterly reports outlining cardio performance trends, insights, and recommendations
Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., or Ed.D.) in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Cardiology, or a closely related field
- Deep expertise in cardiovascular physiology, aerobic performance, and endurance training methodologies
- Demonstrated experience with advanced physiological testing protocols and equipment including gas analysis, ECG, and blood lactate testing, with access to such equipment for research and testing
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals focused on VO2 max, lactate threshold, high-intensity interval training, endurance training, or cardiovascular adaptations
- Experience working directly with elite or professional athletes and teams across endurance sports such as marathon running, cycling, or triathlon
- Proven ability to translate complex scientific principles into practical, individualized training programs
- Experience analyzing real-world datasets related to athlete performance, recovery metrics, and physiological markers
- Ability to commit approximately 5 hours per week as part of a Science Council of 4–5 advisors
- Availability to participate in monthly Science Council meetings, with a mix of remote sessions and periodic in-person meetings in Park City
- Willingness to offer structured office hours through a booking system to support internal teams
- Capacity to support research initiatives and contribute to quarterly reports on trends and recommendations
- Availability for PR or media participation as a scientific representative when needed
Preferred:
- Experience advising digital fitness, sports technology, or performance analytics platforms
- Background integrating wearable data into endurance training models
- Experience conducting applied research in both laboratory and field settings
