This role supports the accounting and reporting processes for multiple reinsurance agreements within Protective’s Reinsured Premium Team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of monthly and quarterly accounting responsibilities, including preparing reinsurance accruals, reconciling reinsured premium payables, completing journal entries, generating reporting packages, and assisting with audit activity.
This position plays a key role in ensuring data accuracy and integrity through detailed analysis and validation. The role also involves working across multiple administrative systems, supporting a wide range of acquired products, serving as a point of contact for reinsured companies, and contributing to process improvements and automation initiatives within the Reinsurance Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly reinsurance accruals.
- Reconcile and distribute reinsured premium payables.
- Perform manual calculations for reinsurance programs not maintained within reinsurance systems.
- Prepare and deliver monthly and quarterly reports, including settlement statements and other required documentation.
- Analyze financial results and provide insights or explanations as needed.
- Conduct reconciliations for key reinsurance accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies by collaborating with internal departments and external partners.
- Support internal and external audits during quarterly and annual review cycles.
- Serve as a resource for internal and external stakeholders regarding reinsured premium activity.
- Assist with statutory and GAAP financial reporting requirements.
- Participate in cross‑training within the team to support group development.
- Contribute to process improvement and automation efforts involving manual processes.
- Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting experience.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and handling large data sets.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with a strong sense of urgency.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with GAAP and Statutory reporting, general ledgers, accounting systems, and operational accounting workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent certification.
- Experience with SAP, SQL, Power Query, or Power BI.
- Insurance or reinsurance industry experience.
The internal title for this position is Analyst II, General Accounting.
