We have built the new way for energy to be transacted.
tem exists to fix a creaking energy market. Today's wholesale system is stacked in favour of the few - a relic of the oil and gas era, riddled with markups and middlemen. We're changing that.
Our product, RED™, is built on a proprietary pricing engine that bypasses the wholesale market, enabling businesses to buy energy produced by renewable generators directly. That means clear, auditable transactions that ensure affordable bills and fair compensation - giving every business real ownership and control over where their energy comes from.
Since launching in 2021, we've saved UK businesses and generators over £25 million, powering a growing network of forward-thinking companies, from Pizza Pilgrims to Silverstone.
Backed by top-tier VCs including Atomico and Albion, we're creating a new category in energy - one that's decentralised, direct, and built on trust.
We're looking for a Debt Management Lead to build and scale tem's debt collection operations. You'll own the financial risk portfolio, transforming debt chasing into a strategic, automated engine that scales with our growth.
This isn't a traditional collections management role. You'll be the strategic architect and operational leader for debt; designing risk-based prioritisation systems, building compliance-safe automation, managing our most strategic enterprise accounts, and partnering with an automation specialist to eliminate manual work. You'll work on the engine's core metric, and maintain always-on strategic planning as part of a cross-functional team (Engineering Lead, Product Lead, Data and Payment operations).
We need systematic collections that balance customer experience with financial recovery, enterprise relationship management with SME efficiency, and compliance safety with automation leverage. If you've built debt operations at another energy supplier and know both what works and what fails, this is your opportunity to design it right from the ground up.
Own our Debt Portfolio: Own and drive core metrics. Collaborate on the now/next/future planning with annual strategic view and quarterly execution. Set prioritisation across our holistic Payments Engine together with the other Leads and define automation requirements. Create positive friction with Payments by surfacing failure patterns and driving forward Product improvements when standard collection methods fail for customer segments.
Build Predictive Systems: Design risk scoring and prioritisation logic. Partner with an automation specialist to automate collection workflows. Run A/B tests to validate strategies. Maintain dashboards for recovery rates, backlog, and automation coverage.
Design Compliance-Safe Operations: Map regulatory constraints and build automations within compliance boundaries. Create audit trails and guardrails.
Define logic for different accounts: Conduct preventative relationship management. Negotiate payment plans and extract patterns to refine automation, and define how we handle risk between contracting and debt.
Must-haves:
5+ years in energy/utility debt or credit control with proven results building systems that scale
Deep understanding of debt portfolio management and energy billing cycles
Experience owning outcomes with cross-functional dependencies
Can set strategy and hold accountability while understanding trade-offs between customer experience and debt collection
Data-literate: can design risk scoring models, build dashboards, run A/B tests, and define automation requirements (not coding/data science)
Understands UK energy debt collection regulations, vulnerable customer protections, and compliance guardrails
Nice-to-haves:
Experience with AI/LLM workflows for collections
Finance platform (Xero) familiarity and financial qualifications
