About Cascade
Join Cascade Climate, a global nonprofit propelling high-potential climate solutions from the margins to the mainstream.
The climate crisis has outpaced our response. In addition to cutting carbon emissions, we need dramatically expanded efforts on mitigating super pollutant emissions (including methane and refrigerants) to cool the planet in the near term, and scaling up carbon removal technologies to restore atmospheric balance for the long haul. Many promising solutions remain sidelined not because they lack potential, but because they haven't gotten the push needed to overcome adoption bottlenecks.
We founded Cascade to provide that push. Our team is currently focused on building the world’s capacity for durable carbon removal through enhanced rock weathering (ERW) and mitigating near-term warming through refrigerant management and transition. We do this by leading ambitious initiatives spanning markets, policy and science to overcome the biggest barriers to progress.
Cascade is philanthropically backed and since our launch in 2023 has earned the trust and support of leading philanthropic organizations, including Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Grantham Foundation, Quadrature Climate Foundation, and more. We are a distributed team of remarkably accomplished and insistently humble people — artists, community builders, entrepreneurs, scientists, and policy strategists — working to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
About the Role
Cascade is hiring a Carbon Markets Manager to help shape and execute our new strategy to unlock high-integrity carbon markets as a tool for climate impact. This role will work across carbon removal and super pollutant mitigation on both of our programs - Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) and Refrigerants - at the intersection of strategy, market analysis, partnerships, and implementation. You will help Cascade understand where markets can drive real climate outcomes, where they are falling short, and what interventions—technical, institutional, or policy—are needed to move them in the right direction. This will be a highly interdisciplinary role - working closely with colleagues across science, policy, and market development, while building relationships with external partners across the ecosystem.
The ideal candidate brings strong analytical horsepower, excellent strategic judgement, and a deep interest in climate markets and climate finance, paired with a pragmatic, impact-oriented mindset. You should be excited to move between research, strategy, and real-world execution to help turn market insights into actionable buyer, supplier, registry, and standards engagement.
Core Roles and Responsibilities
- Own Cascade’s ongoing market sizing and market intelligence efforts across key demand pools, including the voluntary carbon market, domestic and sectoral compliance markets, international credit markets under Article 6, and insetting opportunities for both super pollutants and carbon dioxide removal. Track market trends, eligibility rules, standards updates, and key policy developments to inform strategy and opportunity assessment.
- Drive forward catalytic, voluntary super pollutant opportunities in partnership with external market actors, helping to unlock a pathway toward future government procurement and industry uptake.
- Conduct market analysis and support stakeholder engagement for Cascade’s Refrigerant Management Transition work, with the goal of embedding high-integrity methodologies into carbon market programs and enabling future voluntary and international credit transactions. This includes working closely with carbon registries, methodology developers, and key intermediaries across the VCM ecosystem.
- Monitor and synthesize developments in GHG accounting frameworks and industry standards that may affect Cascade’s market and policy strategies, and that influence the behavior of key market participants (buyers, suppliers, registries).
- Evaluate and help develop opportunities to expand Cascade’s claims and accounting guardrails work and related efforts that shape economic and market incentives across climate mitigation activities.
- Translate technical project methodology, accounting and standards topics into clear recommendations and guidance, including briefs, slide decks, and short memos.
- Prepare written outputs articulating Cascade’s perspective on proposed methodologies or standards changes.
- Support strategic planning and external engagement, including preparation of materials for conferences, events, and stakeholder convenings.
Required Skills and Experiences
- 3+ years relevant experience in carbon markets, standards, emissions accounting, climate policy, or similar field.
- Degree in business, economics, international development, or similar.
- Expertise with both quantitative and qualitative analyses and market research that lead to clear recommendations.
- Technical literacy around carbon markets and how climate mitigation projects come to market.
- Understands and can speak to the impact of policy and regulation on markets.
- Deeply collaborative with a proven ability to work cross-functionally within an organization.
- Strong writing and communication skills with the ability to write succinct memos and present to technical and non-technical audiences.
- External stakeholder relationship management and project management experience.
Preferred Skills and Experiences
- Experience convening stakeholders in workshops, multi-partner projects, etc. and driving multi-stakeholder groups toward collective action.
- Direct experience working with registries, methodology developers, carbon procurement teams, or GHG Accounting standards.
- Familiarity with earth and atmospheric sciences.
- Experience working internationally across cultures and languages.
More broadly, we’re looking for someone who embodies the curiosities and mindsets at the heart of Cascade’s culture:

- Climate solutions enthusiasm – you're energized to explore diverse approaches to the climate crisis. You are excited to dig deep into a range of solutions to the climate crisis. This may include research on climate-relevant financing, policy, and market mechanisms or parsing through scientific research.
