The Senior Manager, Strategic Finance is a high-visibility and high-pace role designed for a finance professional who thrives at the intersection of Finance, Strategy, Data Science, and Investor Relations. This role partners closely with executive leadership to drive long-term value creation, translating complex financial and operational data into clear strategic insights that inform decision-making at the highest levels of the organisation. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping financial strategy, supporting growth initiatives, and ensuring the business is well positioned for scale, investment, and future capital markets activity.
Strategic partner: Act as strategic partner on a daily basis, leading the coordination of broader finance processes and events.
Cross-Functional Bridge: Act as the primary liaison between Finance, Data, Communications, Strategy and Revenue operations.
Strategic Initiatives: Lead "Special Projects" for Finance, specifically focusing on AI Automation within the Finance stack to drive efficiency and predictive accuracy.
Ad-hoc strategic analysis: Support the CFO, VP FP&A and VP Finance in ad-hoc requests, strategic analysis, and core finance processes (business plan, audit, etc.).
Board and investor reporting: Support the CFO and the VP FP&A with the end-to-end production of Board of Directors materials and Quarterly Investor Updates. Translate data and metrics into a compelling strategic and financial narrative.
ARR Analytics: Support the CFO and the VP FP&A with detailed financial analysis of Annualized Recurring Revenue (ARR). Partner with Revenue Operations and Data teams in ensuring high accuracy and completeness of ARR data.
Metrics Leadership: Define and govern the "Master Glossary" of SaaS KPIs (NRR, GRR, CAC Payback, LTV, Magic Number) to ensure Sales, Marketing, and Finance are aligned on a single set of facts. Partnering with the Communications team, ensure DeepL’s metrics used externally with media and stakeholders are always accurate and up to date.
Advanced Analytics: Leverage SQL and Python to build automated dashboards that scale with our data volume.
Competitive Intelligence & Benchmarking: Constantly monitor the AI industry and DeepL’s competitors, and prepare actionable insights for the different parts of the organization. The analysis will include both financial (competitors KPIs, valuation, multiples, etc.) and non-financial (new partnerships, products, etc.). This person will be responsible for collecting and analyzing benchmarking data which can then be used to inform DeepL’s Business Plan and strategic decisions.
Valuation & Benchmarking: Maintain DeepL’s valuation models and perform "Outside-In" analysis against public SaaS and AI peers to track relative performance.
Partnerships: As required, support the Head of Partnerships with strategic analysis and financial modelling.
SQL (Advanced): Ability to query large datasets directly from our data warehouse to audit ARR logic and build custom reporting without Engineering support.
Python (Intermediate): Experience using Python for data manipulation, automating manual reconciliation tasks, or basic predictive financial modeling.
Financial Engineering (Advanced): Expert-level Excel/Google Sheets skills with the ability to build complex, audit-ready cohorts analysis, three-statement models and DCFs from scratch
Professional Pedigree: 10+ years in Strategic Finance, Investor Relations, Investment Banking, Management Consulting, or a Chief of Staff role at a high-growth (Series D+) Tech company.
SaaS Mastery: Deep understanding of SaaS metrics.
IR Experience: Previous exposure to Investor Relations or Board-level reporting in either a private or public company environment.
Executive Presence: Ability to challenge VPs and C-suite leaders with data-driven insights while maintaining high-trust relationships.
Extreme Discretion: Proven ability to handle highly sensitive data (cap tables, compensation, M&A) with total integrity.
Storytelling: The ability to take a "data dump" and distill it into actionable insights for the Leadership Team and Board.
