This role offers the opportunity to support complex, high-visibility programs that advance public health and scientific communications. The Deputy Project Manager will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing multiple concurrent initiatives, including media, outreach, digital, and event projects. You will work closely with leadership, cross-functional teams, and external partners to ensure timely and compliant delivery of projects while maintaining alignment with organizational priorities. This position requires balancing detailed task-level management with broader program objectives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, structured, and dynamic setting where precision, organization, and clear communication are essential.
Accountabilities
- Assist the Project Manager in overseeing multiple workstreams across communications, media, outreach, event, and digital initiatives
- Track schedules, deliverables, and milestones to ensure timely and compliant execution
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including internal staff, external vendors, and subcontractors
- Support project documentation, including maintaining project plans, integrated schedules, task trackers, and status reports
- Assist with budget tracking, labor hour monitoring, and preparation of invoices
- Facilitate and document meetings, capturing agendas, decisions, action items, and follow-ups
- Monitor project risks and support mitigation strategies under the direction of the Project Manager
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in program, project, or portfolio management for complex initiatives, preferably within federal health, science, or public affairs programs
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, public health, business administration, or project management
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders
- Experience managing budgets, labor hours, cost tracking, and reporting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and project management platforms (MS Project, SharePoint, Teams, or equivalents)
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to manage multiple high-priority workstreams simultaneously
- Desired: familiarity with federal agencies or matrixed organizational structures, and experience supporting the management of project lifecycles
