Rush Street Interactive (RSI) is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Architecture to lead the design, governance, and evolution of our digital consumer facing technology landscape. This leader will define system-wide architectural standards, ensure scalability and compliance, and drive innovation across our global gaming platform.
The ideal candidate will blend deep technical expertise with strategic foresight — designing solutions that balance innovation, reliability, and regulatory rigor. You’ll work cross-functionally with engineering, product, security, and operations teams to shape how our systems connect, perform, and scale.
What You'll Do:
System Design & Standards
- Define and maintain the overarching architecture vision, design patterns, and technology stacks across RSI’s platforms.
- Establish standards for microservices, event-driven systems, API design, and cloud frameworks to ensure consistency and interoperability.
- Guide engineering teams in adopting best practices for reliability, observability, and maintainability.
Scalability & Performance
- Ensure all systems are built for global scale, supporting growth in traffic, data volume, and new market expansion.
- Partner with platform and data teams to optimize system performance, latency, and availability.
- Proactively identify scalability risks and design mitigation strategies that support business continuity.
Security & Compliance
- Embed architectural controls to support data privacy, player protection, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Collaborate closely with security, compliance, and legal teams to ensure architecture meets strict gaming and data protection standards.
- Champion secure-by-design principles in every technology decision.
Technology Governance
- Lead the architecture review process, ensuring alignment with technology strategy and long-term business goals.
- Maintain visibility into technical debt, prioritizing remediation efforts alongside new development.
- Provide strategic guidance on build-vs-buy decisions, platform investments, and technology partnerships.
Cross-System Integration
- Architect and optimize API and data flow designs to ensure seamless interoperability between systems — including gaming engines, payments, analytics, CRM, and marketing platforms.
- Drive consistency and reusability in integration models, data schemas, and service contracts.
- Partner with engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient interfaces across the ecosystem.
Innovation Enablement
- Evaluate and pilot emerging technologies that can advance RSI’s platform capabilities or improve developer productivity.
- Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and recommend adoption paths for modernization, automation, or new business opportunities.
- Stay ahead of technology trends in gaming, data, and cloud infrastructure to inform RSI’s innovation roadmap.
- Develop and mentor the engineering team; architects, managers and senior managers.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
- 10+ years of software engineering or architecture experience, with at least 3+ years in an architecture leadership role for a high volume consumer facing digital experience.
- Proven track record designing and scaling cloud-native, distributed systems (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Deep expertise in microservices, APIs, data pipelines, and event-driven architectures.
- Strong understanding of security, privacy, and compliance frameworks relevant to regulated industries (e.g., gaming, fintech).
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerization, and DevOps practices (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins).
- Ability to bridge technical strategy and business outcomes, communicating effectively across executives, engineers, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives and influencing architecture direction at scale.
- Experience in gaming, betting, or other highly regulated digital industries preferred
- ·Familiarity with real-time systems (odds feeds, payments, risk engines, player data) preferred.
- Proven success leading modernization efforts or cloud migrations.
- Strong leadership presence and ability to mentor senior engineers and architects.
