The New York Times is looking for a talented, experienced and versatile reporter to join our London-based Business team to cover global energy with a particular focus on Europe and the Persian Gulf. The beat starts with the companies, executives and investors working in oil, gas and clean energy. There is an additional focus on the Gulfβs money, political power and expansive role in global commerce. The aim is to use the energy sector to tell bigger stories about government, economics, culture, trade, technology and geopolitics.
We are looking for an energetic and determined journalist who loves beat reporting and thrives when competing on the most compelling and important storylines. The starting point for this coverage is Europe but we put a heavy emphasis on stories that make wider connections, and you will work closely with other correspondents in Europe, Asia, the United States and elsewhere, especially the U.S.-based energy reporter. This is a high metabolism job. You will write news, second-day stories, analysis, explainers and enterprise. You will collaborate across multiple desks and teams including International, Breaking News, Video and Graphics. You will write articles, 75-word Live updates, contribute to newsletters and videos and participate in collaborative reporting projects.
This is an in-office position based in London, and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week, except when you are on reporting assignments. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.
