Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.
Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.
TEAM
Developing high-quality systems and software is a mission-critical challenge that requires the meticulous design of software architectures, development processes, and rigorous testing methodologies. As part of the Global Product Quality sub-function, our team is the technical anchor responsible for ensuring "solid," mass-production readiness for the software and systems driving Toyota’s evolution into a software-defined mobility company.
Our team has two primary objectives:
- Establishing robust software development standards to ensure compliance with global automotive requirements.
- Partnering directly with engineering teams to ensure that development activities result in safe, high-quality, and production-ready deliverables.
We believe that a combination of technical expertise in software technologies and a proactive, collaborative communication style is essential to bridge the gap between high-velocity R&D and uncompromising safety standards.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are seeking exceptional engineers to design and implement the technical mechanisms that ensure the safety and quality of our products. You are a professional who thrives at the intersection of architecture, code-level integrity, and global safety standards. Rather than working in a silo, you will collaborate closely with system designers, software architects, and developers to ensure our product is "solid" and ready for mass production.
We value individuals who can move flexibly across diverse engineering domains to derive effective solutions. You should be someone who uses deep domain expertise to build trust, influence design decisions, and mentor teams toward a proactive safety culture.
In this role, you will report to the Team Lead of Product Quality. This role follows a hybrid work schedule requiring at-least 3 days/ week in the office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and govern the Functional Safety lifecycle. Act as the final gatekeeper for Project Safety Plans and lead critical milestone reviews to ensure technical integrity before mass-production releases.
- Partner directly with engineering teams to co-develop Safety Plans and Technical Safety Concepts, ensuring they are technically robust and compliant from the start.
- Conduct deep-dive assessments of the autonomy software stack to identify and remediate safety risks throughout the development journey.
- Support in the development of governance guidelines for AI/ML systems. Bridge the gap between non-deterministic models and rigorous standards like ISO 8800 and UL 4600.
- Manage the technical quality and deliverables of external safety consultants and Tier-1 partners.
- Oversee the creation and verification of the Safety Case, ensuring all technical evidence is complete and audit-ready for mass production.
- Perform independent technical reviews and audits to evaluate project compliance against organizational safety processes.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through technical mentorship and coaching for software and systems engineers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s (Master’s preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science/ Engineering or related technical field
- 5+ years designing safety-critical systems, specifically within an automotive mass-production context (ADAS or autonomous systems preferred).
- Deep, hands-on experience with ISO 26262 (Full lifecycle). Familiarity with SOTIF (ISO 21448) is highly preferred.
- Deep technical expertise in at least one: Embedded systems, real-time software (RTOS), vehicle control systems, or AI system integration.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and experience performing technical code reviews and utilizing static analysis tools (e.g., QAC, Polyspace, or Coverity).
- Skilled in system modeling using SysML or UML (e.g., Enterprise Architect, Cameo, or MagicDraw).
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) in an automotive mass-production context, including familiarity with ASPICE
- Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence design decisions across diverse engineering domains.
NICE TO HAVES
- Formal certification as an Automotive Functional Safety Professional/Expert (e.g., AFSP, CFSP, CSFX).
- Basic knowledge of AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) or simulation tools (e.g., CARLA, NVIDIA Drive Sim).
- Working knowledge of ISO/SAE 21434
- ASPICE Process Expert or Provisional Assessor certification.
- Japanese language proficiency or experience collaborating with Japanese OEMs/Tier-1 partners.
TRAVEL
- 15% (Domestic and International)
