SAR Academy was formed in 1969 through the merger of three Jewish day schools:Salanter Yeshiva: the oldest yeshiva in the Bronx, known for its outstanding traditional educationAkiba Hebrew Academy: a pioneer in progressive Hebrew, Israel-oriented educationRiverdale Hebrew Day School: a school with special achievement in successful integration of the religious and secularThe three schools combined to create a remarkable modern version of a traditional Orthodox Jewish day school for 1st-8th grade. Since its formation, SAR Academy has developed a reputation for innovation by integrating innovative educational methods with traditional Jewish values. In 2003, the SAR High School opened its doors. Upholding the core values of the Academy, SAR High School also recognizes the unique needs and potential of each student, providing challenges and opportunities for students to continue their secular and Judaic Studies. Each member of the faculty is an integral part of the SAR experience, interacting with students in ways that reflect respect, collaboration and a shared love for the ideals of Jewish living and learning.
