About Airwallex

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,300 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.

How you'll make impact

As a Senior IT Engineer, you’ll help our Legal, Risk and Compliance (LRC) teams work faster by building the workflows, automations and systems that support their day-to-day work. You’ll serve as a trusted technical partner to LRC and a core member of our IT Engineering team, working across tools such as Workato, Okta Workflows, Zapier, Google Workspace, Ironclad, AuditBoard and Atlassian products.

You’ll own solutions end to end, from proof of concept through implementation, operations and maintenance. You’ll integrate SaaS platforms and cloud services through APIs, develop custom tools where needed, explore AI-enabled solutions for legal workflows, and help build a scalable technology foundation for a global organisation. You’ll also handle escalations, contribute to incident response, document your solutions, and partner with InfoSec, People Ops, Engineering and IT Operations.

  • Own the technical partnership with LRC, improving and scaling the workflows that support their work across regions.

  • Build workflows, automations and orchestrations that connect systems and improve how LRC teams operate.

  • Deliver AI-enabled solutions and legal technology implementations that help LRC teams work more efficiently.

  • Integrate SaaS platforms, cloud services and enterprise applications through APIs, while building custom tools where needed.

  • Drive the full lifecycle of systems and features, from proof of concept through implementation, operations, maintenance and incident response.

  • Partner with InfoSec, People Ops, Engineering and IT Operations to deliver reliable systems, resolve escalations and support global growth.

You'll work from our San Francisco office three days a week.

What we're looking for

Essentials

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in IT engineering, corporate IT, business systems engineering or a similar role.

  • Experience serving as a technical partner or primary IT engineer for business functions, ideally Legal, Risk, Compliance or another highly regulated function.

  • Expert understanding of identity standards and access management, including SAML, OAuth, SSO, RBAC, ABAC, PBAC and ACLs.

  • Strong experience designing and implementing workflows, automations and orchestrations using tools such as Workato, Okta Workflows or Zapier.

  • Experience working with APIs and integrating common SaaS vendors into a broader technology stack.

  • Experience with SaaS systems and applications, including service desk and collaboration platforms such as Jira, Confluence and Google Workspace.

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, including AWS or GCP.

  • Experience with a programming language such as Python and infrastructure as code such as Terraform.

  • Experience owning systems or products across the full lifecycle, from proof of concept and implementation through operations, maintenance and incident response.

  • Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to create clear documentation and maintain readable system diagrams.

  • Strong understanding of MDM systems across macOS and Windows, including tools such as Kandji, Jamf or Intune.

  • High trustworthiness and empathy when working with privileged and sensitive information.

  • Ability to work autonomously, move quickly, make sound decisions with incomplete information and deliver in high-pressure situations.

  • Willingness to participate in an on-call roster or respond to incidents in emergencies.

Preferred

  • Experience building or implementing AI-enabled tools and workflows for legal, risk or compliance teams.

  • Experience with legal applications such as Ironclad or AuditBoard.

  • Experience integrating cloud, SaaS and enterprise platforms such as Okta, Google, GCP, Aliyun, Salesforce and Slack.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.

  • Experience working in a global, distributed organisation with teams across multiple countries and time zones.

You'll thrive here if

  • You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself.

  • You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.

  • You're comfortable with ambiguity. Give you a problem, not a prescription, and you'll run with it.

  • You’re comfortable operating across time zones with a globally distributed team, including colleagues based in APAC and EMEA.

  • You value in-person collaboration and are happy being in the office three days a week.
