Avery Dennison is seeking a Senior EHS Specialist to support our Reflective Solutions business at our Painesville, Ohio site. As the Senior EHS Specialist, you will serve as a key member of the plant leadership team for the Reflective Solutions business.
In this role, you will serve as the primary Environmental Health and Safety resource, driving continuous EHS improvements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a safe, compliant, and sustainable operating environment across facility and business operations.
Key Responsibilities
This position is based on-site in Painesville, OH.
Act as the primary EHS resource for site needs and Reflective Solutions employees in Painesville, OH, implementing programs, developing facility-specific procedures, and integrating company and facility-level EHS management systems to maintain compliance, environmental protection, and safe operating conditions across all federal, state, and local regulatory and company requirements.
Lead core EHS programs, including Hazcom, Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) LQG hazardous waste, Title V, stormwater, hearing conservation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, TRI reporting, employee participation programs, and Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews—while maintaining OSHA 300 logs, form 301, and governmental/corporate database records.
Prepare and maintain facility compliance records, reports, and permits on time and accurately, reviewing and providing mentorship on federal, state, and local regulation changes impacting permits, while organizing and controlling an effective accident prevention program.
Lead as the site Emergency Response Coordinator, assist with maintaining Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures, investigate all spills, releases, injuries, fires, and near-misses with proper system documentation, and coordinate/maintain the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) program, chemical approvals, and R&D procedure evaluations.
Conduct periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance with safety and sanitary standards, maintain working relationships with regulatory agencies, implement required education and training, mentor facility safety teams, drive continuous improvement through behavioral-based processes, generate creative EHS solutions, and actively participate in corporate functional partnerships and the Corporate EHS Network.
Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree or higher preferred, with a strong preference for EHS-related majors, alongside an advanced professional EHS certification (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM, QEP, CEA, REM) preferred but not required.
5+ years of experience in an environmental, health, and safety-focused role, with demonstrated experience driving results on complex work assignments or educational projects of progressive complexity, depth, and scope; experience in a research and development laboratory environment is preferred.
Good knowledge of regulatory requirements, EHS policies, procedures, and programs, paired with strong project management/problem-resolution skills and solid understanding of applicable computer systems (including Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Sheets, and function-specific software).
Strategic thinking capabilities and strong leadership skills with excellent interpersonal communications, mentoring, facilitating, and training skills, with the flexibility to support a 24-hour operation.
Must be able to work on-site in Painesville, OH Monday through Friday, with availability to come on-site on nights and weekends in an emergency (or arrange necessary coverage); may require up to 5% travel.
The salary range for this position is $83,400 - $124,544 / year.
The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting.
