About The Role
The Accounting Director is a leadership role responsible for the overall integrity, compliance, and efficiency of the company's accounting and financial reporting processes. This role will provide strategic direction for all accounting operations, including the General Ledger and Accounts Payable and will support with Payroll and Accounting administration to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant employee compensation and related tax filings. The Director will serve as a key resource to executive leadership and will be instrumental in developing internal controls and scalable accounting strategies.
What You’ll Do:
- Ownership of month and quarter end close process and activities, including the review of journal entries and coordination with FP&A to ensure an effective and efficient process
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust accounting policies and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
- Provide support for payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely payment for all employees (salaried, hourly, multi-state, etc.).
- Review and approve complex payroll entries, including tax withholdings, garnishments, benefit deductions, and retirement contributions
- Lead, manage and develop team by fostering an open environment with aligned direction, prioritization and empowerment
- Manage accounting issues and communicate effectively and timely while maintaining appropriate documentation
- Conduct technical accounting review and documentation of complex arrangements
- Review financial results for completeness and accuracy and drive for operational efficiency
- Focus on automation and system improvements by partnering with departments across the business to implement IT systems and ensure proper accounting treatment of various activities, continuously improve business processes and systems
- Oversee compliance with SOX requirements and maintain effective internal controls by implementing processes and document controls to ensure a SOX compliant environment
- Participate in the SEC reporting process, review footnote disclosures in support of SEC Reporting
- Perform critical actual vs actual account analyses and present finding to the Corporate Controller and other senior leadership
- Review and preparation of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring that general ledger accounts are reconciled with documented resolution to reconciling items
- Work with internal and external auditors to provide accurate PBCs on a quarterly basis
- Lead or support various ad hoc projects and initiatives
- Conduct cross-functional trainings on accounting policies
- Support interpretation of internal policy and U.S. GAAP accounting standards
The Right Fit:
- CPA with 7+ years of combined public accounting and private industry experience
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls over financial reporting
- General ledger accounting experience, including preparation and review of journal entries and account reconciliations
- Experience applying technical accounting guidance to complex transactions and new accounting standards, including the ability to research and interpret authoritative accounting literature
- Experience in the preparation of financial statements, with the ability to read, interpret, and analyze financial results
- Experience preparing and reviewing SEC-required disclosures
- Experience working with enterprise accounting systems (NetSuite experience a plus)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills
- Solid understanding of IT systems and their impact on financial reporting; system implementation experience a plus
- Proven people leader with experience attracting, developing, and retaining talent
- Excellent communication and business partnering skills
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to deliver operational excellence in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and efficiency initiatives
