Who We Are: At Career Team, we work to accelerate the human condition. Our award-winning portal, Career EDGE, transforms lives across the U.S.—and behind every compliant experience is a legal expert like you.
We are looking for a Philippines-based Employment Attorney to support our Legal Department, with a focus on U.S. employment and labor law. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this individual will play a vital role in supporting our U.S. workforce operations—advising on employment compliance, supporting HR on personnel matters, and managing employment-related policies and risk across multiple U.S. states. This is a unique opportunity to practice U.S. employment law at scale while helping drive positive social impact. This is a fully remote position working night shift hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on U.S. federal and state employment law matters, including wage-and-hour compliance (FLSA and state analogues), meal and rest break requirements, expense reimbursement, leave laws (FMLA, state paid leave programs), and worker classification.
- Support multi-state employment compliance as the company's U.S. workforce footprint grows, including monitoring new and changing state and local employment laws.
- Draft, review, and maintain employment-related documents, including offer letters, employment agreements, restrictive covenants, separation agreements, and employee handbooks and policies.
- Partner with HR on personnel matters, including performance management, accommodations (ADA), disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Conduct and support internal investigations into employee complaints, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wage claims.
- Support management of employment-related disputes and litigation, including coordinating with outside counsel, managing discovery and document collection, and assisting with administrative agency matters (EEOC, state agencies, DOL).
- Advise on employment aspects of insurance coverage, including EPLI policies, claims reporting, and coverage analysis.
- Monitor pay practices, payroll tax compliance, and employer withholding obligations in coordination with finance and payroll teams.
- Develop and deliver employment law training for managers and HR staff.
What You Bring:
- Law degree and active license to practice in the Philippines. A law degree from a U.S. law school (J.D.) or admission to a U.S. state bar is strongly preferred.
- Significant experience or formal education in U.S. employment and labor law, whether through practice, LL.M. coursework, or sustained work supporting U.S. employers.
- Familiarity with wage-and-hour litigation and multi-state compliance (California experience a strong plus).
- Located in the Philippines with night shift work hours (to overlap with U.S. team).
- Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying and resolving legal issues.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote U.S.-based team.
- A commitment to ethical, mission-driven legal practice.
Why Join Career Team?
- Work for a growing, purpose-driven company with a national reach.
- Enjoy a fully remote work environment with a flexible schedule.
- Be part of a collaborative and values-driven team.
