The role
As part of the planned retirement of our current accountant, we are looking for a Finance Manager / Senior Accountant to take ownership of the finance and accounting activities of our German operations.
Reporting directly to the local CEO, you will be the stand-alone finance professional for two small German legal entities, while working closely with Digital Virgo’s Group Finance teams.
This is a hands-on position: you will manage day-to-day accounting yourself, ensure monthly and year-end closings, oversee local tax compliance and contribute to financial analysis and Group reporting.
You will also play a key role in the upcoming migration to the Group ERP, Workday.
A transition period with the current accountant will be organised before his retirement in early 2027.
Your main responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting: general ledger, AP/AR, bank accounting and customer invoicing.
- Own the monthly closing process, including accruals, provisions, reconciliations and other closing entries.
- Prepare the accounts and supporting documentation for the annual statutory closing.
- Manage recurring tax compliance, including VAT declarations, with support from external tax advisers when needed.
- Prepare financial information and reporting for Digital Virgo Group and manage intercompany accounting.
- Ensure appropriate accounting of Group profit-sharing arrangements and compliance with transfer-pricing policies.
- Analyse revenue, costs and margins, investigate variances and identify errors or improvement opportunities.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and ad-hoc financial analysis.
- Act as the local Finance key contact for the Workday implementation, from process mapping and data preparation through testing and go-live.
You are a hands-on, experienced accounting professional who can independently manage the accounts of small German entities through monthly and year-end closing.
What we are looking for:
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a German SME, German subsidiary of an international group, or accounting/tax advisory firm.
- Strong practical knowledge of German accounting (HGB) and experience preparing monthly and year-end closings, including accruals, provisions and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Practical knowledge of German VAT and recurring tax compliance; you do not need to be a tax expert, as external advisers can provide support on complex or one-off matters.
- Ability and willingness to manage day-to-day bookkeeping yourself. This is a stand-alone Finance position with no accounting team reporting to you.
- Good understanding of P&L and margin analysis, with the ability to investigate variances and identify accounting errors or business improvement opportunities.
- Comfortable working with ERP and finance systems and strong Excel skills. Experience with Workday or an ERP implementation/migration is a plus.
- Fluent German and good professional English, enabling you to work directly with Digital Virgo's international Finance teams.
- Autonomous, rigorous and pragmatic, with the confidence to raise issues and interact directly with the local CEO and Group Finance.
What we offer
A broad and autonomous Finance role within a small local organisation, combined with the exposure and projects of an international Group.
You will join at an important time for our German operations, with a second legal entity being established and the upcoming Workday implementation.
Compensation: €55,000–€65,000 gross/year, depending on experience.
Remote working : TBD (hybrid mode)
Location: Düsseldorf, Germany.
