Flock Safety·about 6 hours ago
As Flock continues to expand to more customers, our pipeline systems must process billions of daily assets in real time with ultra-low latency. Accommodating this rapid workload expansion demands strong architectural design, backend optimization, and distributed systems scaling. You will solve critical scaling bottlenecks, optimize data processing pipelines, and build resilient infrastructure that supports our growing customer base.
Architect, scale, and maintain high-throughput backend data pipelines handling real-time asset ingestion across microservices.
Optimize PostgreSQL database performance, pub/sub architectures, and distributed storage systems under heavy traffic loads.
Lead service migrations toward Go-heavy patterns while maintaining performant TypeScript backend services.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Hardware, Machine Learning, Web, Mobile, and Data Science teams to design and deploy new pipeline features.
Act as a technical domain expert by conducting code reviews, mentoring peer engineers, and driving engineering best practices across the pipeline ecosystem.
This isn't a front-end or client-side engineering position, your daily focus centers strictly on high-scale backend data processing and microservice architecture.
This is not a purely theoretical research role, you will take ambiguous problems, map out concrete technical plans, and ship production-grade code.
This isn't a siloed individual contribution, you will actively collaborate across adjacent engineering disciplines and mentor junior engineers.
Deep proficiency in TypeScript backend patterns alongside proficiency or strong capability to scale up quickly in Go.
Demonstrated capability in designing and operating distributed systems and microservice architectures under heavy data ingestion loads.
Strong backend database and pub/sub experience leveraging PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, DynamoDB, Redis, SQS, or SNS, including query optimization.
Practical cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized deployment workflows.
Excellent cross-functional communication skills with a track record of collaborating across hardware, data science, and application engineering teams.
In this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $172,000 and $200,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.
Every community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We're 1,700 people building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches, this is it.
Some problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.
Building the impossible takes every kind of mind. Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, email [email protected]; your information stays confidential and is used only to arrange the right accommodation for your interviews.
On compensation: we pay fairly for the work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education, training, and market indicators. The range in this posting covers base salary only and doesn't include equity, sales bonus plans where applicable, or benefits. The range may be adjusted over time, and this posting may span more than one career level.
One last thing: all legitimate communication from Flock comes from an email ending in @flocksafety.com or [email protected].
