SUMMARY

HSAG is nationally recognized as an industry leader in healthcare data analysis, measure development, and survey research. We are seeking a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer I with hands-on Amazon QuickSight expertise to design and deliver dashboards supporting HSAG’s Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contract within the secure Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) environment. Familiarity with Tableau is also desired to support other HSAG visual analytics work.

The role’s primary focus is creating, enhancing, and supporting QIO dashboards in Amazon QuickSight, with opportunities to use Tableau for other visual analytics initiatives.

DESCRIPTION

The BI Developer I is a key contributor to federal analytic work supporting HSAG’s Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contract. The primary responsibility of this role is to create, enhance, validate, document, and maintain dashboards in Amazon QuickSight within the secure CMS data environment. The successful candidate must be able to translate business and contract requirements into clear, accurate, and actionable dashboard experiences for QIO stakeholders. Data incorporated into these dashboards may include, but are not limited to:

· medical and prescription drug claims

· skilled nursing facility (SNF) home minimum data set (MDS) data

· case review

· facility self-reported

· demographics

· QIO operational data

· publicly reported data (e.g., Care Compare)

· survey and certification data

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as an integral member of HSAG’s Data Science & Advanced Analytics division.
Work with HSAG staff, CMS stakeholders, and other customers to elicit, document, and refine dashboard requirements.
Design, develop, test, deploy, document, and maintain Amazon QuickSight analyses, datasets, reports, and multi-level dashboards in the CMS environment.
Develop efficient, intuitive QuickSight dashboard navigation, drill-downs, filters, parameters, calculations, and role-appropriate views.
Apply data validation and quality-control procedures to confirm that dashboard measures, calculations, labels, and visualizations accurately reflect approved specifications.
Maintain dashboard version documentation and support controlled promotion of dashboard changes in accordance with CMS and HSAG processes.
Create and maintain Tableau dashboards or visualizations for other assigned HSAG work, as needed.
Design and implement proof-of-concept solutions and advanced BI visualizations, applying effective data visualization and dashboard usability practices.
Use approved data sources and reporting tools to validate dashboard measures, investigate data issues, and support ad hoc analysis.
Develop clear dashboard documentation, data definitions, user guidance, presentations, and related project materials.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting to HSAG staff, stakeholders, and providers regarding QuickSight dashboards, data, access, and functionality.
Coordinate the technical User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process, document findings, resolve defects, and support production readiness for dashboards.
Manage assigned work across the dashboard development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products that align with project schedules, QIO contract requirements, security expectations, and milestones.
Communicate complex technical and analytic topics clearly through written documentation, demonstrations, and oral presentations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, or a quantitative discipline.
At least 2 years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining visualization solutions in Amazon QuickSight is required. Candidates must demonstrate practical QuickSight expertise, including experience creating analyses, dashboards, calculated fields, filters, parameters, and interactive visualizations.
Familiarity with Tableau dashboard development is required to support additional HSAG visual analytics work; hands-on Tableau development experience is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and experience documenting business and technical requirements based on user interviews are required.
Experience with Databricks is preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with healthcare data, Medicare data, claims data, quality improvement data, or other regulated data is preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and work with multiple teams.

CMS ACCESS AND SECURITY REQUIREMENTS

This position requires access to CMS data systems and secure computing environments. As a condition of performing assigned QIO work, the selected candidate must successfully complete all required CMS vetting, identity verification, background investigation, security, privacy, and access-authorization processes applicable to the role.

The employee must maintain eligibility for CMS system access, complete required security and privacy training, comply with CMS and HSAG policies for handling sensitive information, and promptly provide documentation or information needed to establish and retain access.
