Summary

Under general supervision, the Physician Office Practice Manager serves as a member of the project team responsible for implementing clinical quality improvement (QI) activities with outpatient clinical practices (physician offices) for clinical care and chronic disease quality improvement projects. This includes generating clinical quality reports from various electronic health records (EHR), analyzing the data to identify care gaps, assisting with reporting Quality measures, and providing process improvement interventions to close gaps in the practice’s day-to-day workflow.

Essential Competencies, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Direct working knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a clinical practice.
  • Strong operational knowledge in the Quality Payment Program and value-based models.
  • Engage and provide assistance to Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and independent provider offices for QI projects.
  • Proficiency in Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), Alternative Payment Model (APM), and/or Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) reporting requirements.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR), registries, and/or health information exchange (HIE).
  • Utilize problem-solving techniques and other QI methods, such as Root Cause Analysis, Plan-Do-Study -Act/Adjust (PDSA), workflow redesign, data trending and analysis to demonstrate to providers how current processes may create or ease system bottlenecks.
  • Provide educational support to providers regarding how to reengineer existing processes and subcomponents or design new ones to improve performance and/or documentation on quality indicators that are below standards.
  • Communicate with providers regularly to inform them of project goals and ascertain providers' needs for technical assistance from HSAG.
  • Assess current providers' EHR systems and barriers to QI and reporting of quality measures to determine appropriate interventions. Research and develop resources to support interventions.
  • Understanding medical billing and coding terminologies, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, to help with medical claims submission of Quality measures.
  • Report writing and documenting interventions using appropriate reporting tools such as SharePoint.
  • Project deadlines may necessitate occasional extended work hours.

 

Additional Tasks

  • Contribute to occasional Requests for Proposals or Success Stories.
  • Other tasks and assignments as may be assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Nursing or Public Administration.
    • Four years leadership / management / clinical care experience in a physician practice or a specialty/multi-specialty physician group required.
    • Other Qualifications

      • Proficiency of MIPS reporting requirements.
      • Possess an understanding of the changing healthcare marketplace, especially in technology diffusion in the physician's office.
        • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
        • Proficient in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
