Accountabilities:

The Associate General Counsel will oversee legal strategy and compliance for consumer finance operations, providing proactive guidance that supports business growth while managing regulatory and operational risks.

• Serve as the primary legal advisor for the complete homeowner origination lifecycle, including marketing, applications, underwriting support, closing, document recording, and servicing.
• Provide guidance on federal and state regulations impacting consumer finance and home equity investment products.
• Manage consumer finance compliance matters, including UDAAP, fair lending requirements, and other consumer protection obligations.
• Review and approve product materials, marketing campaigns, and customer-facing communications to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
• Draft, negotiate, and manage vendor, title, escrow, and transaction-support agreements.
• Advise on privacy and data security matters, including compliance considerations related to consumer financial information.
• Oversee litigation, consumer complaints, and disputes while coordinating with external legal partners when needed.
• Monitor regulatory developments affecting residential real estate finance and recommend updates to policies, documentation, and operational processes.
• Partner with origination, marketing, product, and operations teams to provide practical legal solutions that support business objectives.
• Build scalable legal processes and infrastructure to support continued growth.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced legal professional with strong expertise in consumer finance, regulatory compliance, and business-focused legal counseling.

• 7+ years of legal experience, ideally combining law firm, regulatory, and/or in-house experience within consumer finance, lending, or related industries.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required, with active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
• Strong understanding of consumer finance products, residential mortgage-related products, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
• Knowledge of consumer protection requirements, including UDAAP and fair lending principles.
• Experience advising on privacy and data security compliance, including GLBA and CCPA, preferred.
• Experience drafting and negotiating vendor, title, escrow, or other operational agreements.
• Experience managing litigation, consumer complaints, or regulatory disputes preferred.
• Strong business judgment with the ability to provide clear, practical legal advice in a fast-moving environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
• Ability to operate effectively in an early-stage or high-growth company environment.
