This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate General Counsel - Global Commercial Lead based in the United States.
This is a senior legal leadership role responsible for shaping and scaling global commercial legal strategy at a fast-growing, internationally operating technology organization. You will sit at the intersection of legal, sales, product, and finance, enabling high-velocity enterprise growth while ensuring disciplined risk management across complex commercial agreements. The role is highly strategic and operational, focusing on building scalable legal frameworks that support global expansion across North America, EMEA, and APAC. You will lead commercial contracting strategy, define negotiation standards, and act as a key decision-maker for commercial risk within established thresholds. In addition to deal execution, you will design modern legal operations powered by automation and AI, helping transform how legal work is delivered at scale. This is a high-impact leadership position for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments where legal strategy directly influences business growth and product innovation.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and scale the global commercial legal function, overseeing commercial contracting strategy across multiple regions including North America, EMEA, and APAC, ensuring consistency and alignment with business goals.
- Define and implement commercial risk frameworks and negotiation standards that enable enterprise growth while maintaining strong governance and compliance.
- Serve as a key legal advisor to Sales, Finance, Product, Security, and executive leadership on complex enterprise agreements and cross-border transactions.
- Build and develop a high-performing legal team, strengthening leadership depth, operational independence, and succession planning within the function.
- Architect and implement modern legal operations, leveraging AI, automation, and data-driven KPIs to improve contract lifecycle management, workflow efficiency, and decision-making.
- Partner cross-functionally to support product launches, international expansion, and evolving regulatory requirements while ensuring scalable legal structures.
- Translate company strategy into actionable legal priorities, ensuring the legal function accelerates business velocity rather than slowing it down.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house leadership experience within a technology, SaaS, or high-growth global organization.
- Qualified lawyer in the US, UK, or EU jurisdictions with strong expertise in commercial law and enterprise contracting.
- Proven experience leading or scaling a commercial legal function, ideally in a multinational or rapidly expanding business environment.
- Deep expertise in negotiating complex, cross-border enterprise agreements across regulated or high-stakes industries.
- Strong ability to partner with executive stakeholders and influence business strategy through legal guidance and risk management.
- Experience building or modernizing legal operations, ideally incorporating AI tools, automation, or legal tech solutions.
- Strong leadership capabilities with a track record of building and mentoring high-performing legal teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance legal rigor with commercial speed.
