This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Managing Editor based in India.
This role offers the opportunity to manage and develop a portfolio of scholarly journals from end to end.
You will work closely with editors, authors, reviewers, societies, and international publishing teams.
The position combines journal operations, stakeholder management, performance analysis, and portfolio development.
You will help ensure publications are delivered on schedule while maintaining high editorial and operational standards.
A key focus will be improving journal visibility, indexing outcomes, citation performance, and overall growth.
The role also provides opportunities to contribute to marketing initiatives, contracts, reporting, and process improvements.

Accountabilities
- Manage the end-to-end publication lifecycle for assigned journals, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of issues and adherence to publishing schedules and service commitments.
- Act as a primary operational contact for journal-related matters, coordinating with editors, editorial boards, authors, reviewers, society partners, and internal teams.
- Support the onboarding and transition of newly acquired journals into editorial management, ensuring continuity and effective operational setup.
- Monitor publication timelines, identify potential delays or risks, and coordinate appropriate actions to keep journals on track.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across India, the UK, the US, and other relevant teams, providing responsive and high-quality support.
- Partner with editors to improve manuscript flow, turnaround times, editorial planning, journal visibility, and overall publication strategy.
- Drive journal development initiatives related to abstracting and indexing, Impact Factor acquisition, citation performance, and portfolio growth.
- Develop and implement journal-specific plans designed to improve reach, performance, and impact.
- Collaborate with Marketing teams on promotional initiatives such as calls for papers, Impact Factor announcements, special issues, article-level campaigns, conferences, and events.
- Prepare, analyze, and present journal performance reports, publisher reports, KPIs, and operational metrics while maintaining accurate portfolio documentation.
- Support journal contract renewals and addenda, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing relevant documentation.
- Contribute to onboarding and ongoing management of new publishing products and content solutions while developing knowledge of publishing business models.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational excellence, staying informed about developments, trends, and emerging technologies in scholarly publishing.
- Work independently toward departmental objectives while escalating risks, issues, and complex matters appropriately.
- Postgraduate degree in Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Publishing, or a related discipline.
- 2–3 years of experience in scholarly journal publishing, preferably within an editorial or journal management environment.
- Experience managing journals across the publication lifecycle, including editorial workflows and operational coordination.
- Hands-on experience with journal development activities, indexing applications, and strategies related to journal performance and visibility.
- Strong understanding of scholarly publishing processes, peer review management, journal development, publishing contracts, business models, and Abstracting & Indexing databases.
- Knowledge of Impact Factor, citation performance, and other journal performance metrics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience with peer review or journal management systems is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse international stakeholders.
- Strong relationship-building, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative publishing environment.
