This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Automotive Director of Field Development based in the United States.

This senior leadership role drives the performance, development, and consistency of field teams supporting automotive dealership operations. You will oversee the administration, onboarding, staffing, and performance of F&I Account Specialists while directly managing and developing District Managers. The position combines field leadership, coaching, operational oversight, customer service, and business development. You’ll work closely with regional and national leadership to strengthen training programs and improve field execution. A significant focus will be placed on performance assessments, revenue generation, and maintaining high service standards. With approximately 65% travel, this is a highly visible, hands-on role suited to an experienced automotive professional who thrives in a dynamic field environment.

Accountabilities

    • Oversee the administration, scheduling, staffing, reporting, invoicing, and receivables processes associated with F&I Account Specialist assignments.
    • Lead, onboard, coach, and develop Account Specialists, monitoring performance through checklists, audits, one-on-one meetings, field kickoffs, and onsite inspections.
    • Ensure new District Managers receive a structured 30-day ride and orientation, coordinating with Regional Managers and maintaining completion and certification of required activities.
    • Support the development and delivery of District Manager training programs in partnership with training and development leadership.
    • Conduct ride-alongs and performance evaluations for District Managers, providing actionable feedback and coaching to improve effectiveness and consistency.
    • Oversee people-management responsibilities and promote consistent processes and service standards across the field organization.
    • Drive business development and fee generation through performance assessments and effective field execution.
    • Collaborate with field development and training leadership to continuously improve onboarding materials, checklists, training programs, and operational processes.
    • Track and report on specialist and field performance, staffing levels, revenue, assignments, and other key operational metrics.
    • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, dealership clients, and field teams while maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction.
    • Requirements

      • Extensive knowledge of retail automotive dealership operations, with 4+ years of District Manager or comparable leadership experience.
      • At least 2 years of experience in sales, management, and customer service, preferably within the automotive industry.
      • Strong understanding of retail automotive management, with 5+ years of dealership management experience strongly preferred.
      • Current state licensing for your home state, or the ability to obtain the required licensing.
      • AFIP and/or A.C.E. certification preferred or required according to applicable role expectations.
      • Experience in automotive retail sales, F&I, Account Specialist functions, or nationwide F&I operations is highly desirable.
      • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
      • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify issues, compare information from multiple sources, and make sound decisions.
      • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish trust quickly and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
      • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop others through timely feedback, guidance, and performance support.
      • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to evaluate alternatives and make decisions based on facts, business constraints, and organizational priorities.
      • Ability to work effectively in a highly mobile, field-oriented environment and travel approximately 65% of the time.
      • Must reside within approximately 45 minutes of a major airport; candidates based in Arizona or Colorado are strongly preferred.
