This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a BAS Design Manager based in the United States.
This is a fully remote technical leadership opportunity supporting complex, mission-critical building and data center projects across the United States.
The role focuses on building automation systems (BAS), power management systems (PMS/EPMS), controls integration, and smart building technologies.
You will provide engineering and project leadership from design development through construction and delivery, ensuring systems meet technical, quality, and client requirements.
You will collaborate with MEP engineers, contractors, vendors, software specialists, project managers, and client representatives across multidisciplinary environments.
The position also offers the opportunity to shape and maintain engineering standards, improve workflows, and introduce emerging digital and AI-enabled technologies.
Operating with significant independence, you will serve as a technical lead on projects while coordinating the work of internal staff and external partners.
This role is ideal for an experienced BAS professional who combines technical depth, project leadership, strong communication, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
Accountabilities:
- Oversee external partner scopes of work, including statements of objectives, construction drawings, technical specifications, and other design deliverables, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements and applicable codes.
- Coordinate with project teams and external partners to maintain scope compliance, quality standards, schedules, and timely delivery of design and documentation packages.
- Create and manage BAS/PMS project deliverables, including design drawings, sequences of operations, specifications, system architecture diagrams, point-to-point wiring diagrams, and control panel diagrams.
- Support the development and review of engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Revit, while coordinating BAS-related requirements with MEP trades and other disciplines.
- Identify potential scope changes and help develop strategies to minimize cost and schedule impacts while maintaining project objectives.
- Manage project deliverables when not serving as the lead design engineer and coordinate the work of other engineering and production staff as needed.
- Develop, document, and maintain BAS and EPMS production standards and specification sections in collaboration with BIM and other internal teams.
- Regularly evaluate standards to ensure they reflect customer requirements, established graphics standards, and advances in BAS, EPMS, and smart building technologies.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to employees and external partners regarding standards implementation and compliance.
- Support construction administration by reviewing shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, punch lists, and project closeout documentation.
- Participate in onsite BAS engineering audits, feasibility studies, and surveys for retrofit projects.
- Prepare and oversee project progress reports, departmental reports, and contract administration activities.
- Collaborate closely with project management and engineering teams while communicating effectively with clients and serving as a primary point of contact when required.
- Leverage AI-enabled tools and digital technologies to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and enhance team productivity.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and stay current with emerging technologies, skills, and methods that can improve engineering outcomes.
Requirements:
- Bachelorβs degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in BAS controls systems engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of open-source building automation protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, and SNMP.
- Knowledge of IoT, smart building solutions, and typical control redundancy strategies used in data centers.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and tools relevant to mission-critical and commercial buildings.
- Advanced proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately manage technical documentation, reports, and project deliverables.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and non-technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate directly with clients and confidently manage stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, including in a fully remote environment with moderate supervision.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience planning, coordinating, and delegating the work of other engineering or production staff.
- Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to optimize workflows and contribute to continuous innovation.
- Self-motivated, proactive, resourceful, and capable of maintaining effective communication and productivity in a remote setting.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% to client sites, partner offices, meetings, or company events across the United States.
- Ability to comply with applicable company, project, and site safety requirements.
- Ability to occasionally move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and work across office, facility, and other project environments.
Benefits:
- Fully remote position, open to candidates located anywhere in the United States.
- Base compensation range of approximately $104,738 to $130,502 annually, with actual compensation determined by factors including experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location.
