This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Development Manager (Payments) based in India.
This role offers the opportunity to drive growth by expanding and strengthening a network of payment providers across key international markets. You will identify strategic partnership opportunities, evaluate regional payment needs, and negotiate commercial agreements that support business growth. The position combines market intelligence, relationship management, commercial negotiation, and hands-on provider onboarding. You will work closely with internal payments teams to ensure new partnerships translate into reliable and effective payment solutions. The role is particularly suited to a proactive payments professional with strong industry knowledge and a commercial mindset. You will play an important part in identifying emerging opportunities and helping shape the evolution of payment services.
Accountabilities
- Identify, engage, and acquire new payment providers through strategic partnerships aligned with regional business needs.
- Conduct market research to identify relevant payment methods, providers, and emerging opportunities across target markets.
- Evaluate payment sources and market developments to identify opportunities for expanding the provider network.
- Lead commercial discussions and negotiate favorable, sustainable terms with prospective payment providers.
- Manage and support the onboarding of new providers, coordinating activities and ensuring a smooth transition into the payment ecosystem.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing providers, identifying opportunities to improve commercial terms and expand collaboration.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive reporting on provider interactions, negotiations, partnerships, and onboarding activities.
- Collaborate closely with internal Payments teams to support seamless provider integration and reliable service delivery.
- Monitor payment industry trends, products, and services to identify innovative opportunities and recommend improvements.
- Proactively develop new ideas and partnership strategies that strengthen the payment network and contribute to business growth.
Requirements
- Proven experience in business development, partnerships, or a related commercial function within the payments industry.
- Strong experience working within the high-risk payments segment.
- Deep understanding of payment sources, payment methods, provider ecosystems, and current industry trends.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and nurture strategic business relationships.
- Strong commercial negotiation skills, with the ability to create mutually beneficial agreements and achieve win-win outcomes.
- Fluent English communication skills are required; knowledge of Russian is a strong advantage.
- Experience working with markets in India, Latin America, and Japan is advantageous.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- Proactive, entrepreneurial, and creative approach to business development and problem solving.
- Ability to manage multiple partnership opportunities, negotiations, and onboarding activities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong market awareness and curiosity about evolving payment products, technologies, and services.
