This remote opportunity supports federal public health communications across a broad range of scientific and policy-focused initiatives.
You will write, edit, and coordinate clear, accurate content designed to inform diverse audiences and support health education efforts.
The role combines strong editorial judgment with collaboration across communications, policy, scientific, web, media, and creative teams.
You will help translate complex health information into accessible, audience-appropriate materials using plain-language and risk-communication best practices.
Your work may span guidelines, training resources, reports, web content, presentations, blogs, email campaigns, and public awareness initiatives.
You will also contribute to research, data analysis, outreach strategy, and coordinated communications during evolving public health situations.

Accountabilities:
- Write, edit, and refine communications materials covering infection control guidelines, recommendations, training resources, web content, policy statements, reports, presentations, and related initiatives.
- Collaborate with communications, policy, scientific, web, media, and other stakeholders to develop educational and promotional materials grounded in science and tailored to specific audiences.
- Create talking points, blog content, public-facing materials, policy communications, and other digital content while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and appropriate tone.
- Coordinate major announcements, awareness campaigns, and dissemination efforts in partnership with communications, web, media, and external stakeholders.
- Develop source material, key messages, and calls to action that creative teams can use to produce infographics, videos, posters, and other visual communications.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal staff and external partners to support guideline promotion, recommendations, and coordinated communications, including during outbreaks.
- Ensure communications remain consistent with related recommendations, partner messaging, health education practices, risk-communication principles, plain-language standards, and established communication policies.
- Support formative research and the collection, organization, editing, and interpretation of communications metrics.
- Review data, identify trends, and develop practical solutions or recommendations to strengthen analysis and outreach strategies.
- Create and review compelling content for reports, presentations, websites, social media, policy outreach, partnership communications, and other channels.
- Represent the communications team in meetings, provide clear updates and summaries, and help triage and develop responses to inquiries.
- Proactively identify and resolve communications or workflow issues while contributing ideas to improve outreach and analytical approaches.
- Format and distribute email campaigns using platforms such as Adobe Campaign or similar tools, publish blog content, and moderate blog comments as needed.
- Use SharePoint and related tools for workflow and task management.
- Apply Section 508 accessibility guidelines when preparing electronic documents for online publication or email distribution, using appropriate compliance checklists.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Writing/Editing, Public Health, or a related discipline.
- Previous professional experience in communications and editing, with a strong ability to produce polished, accurate, audience-focused content.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and editorial quality.
- Demonstrated ability to write in plain language and translate complex or technical information into accessible communications.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with communications, scientific, policy, creative, and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Microsoft Excel, as well as SharePoint and digital communications tools.
- Strong project management, organization, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
- Ability to prioritize effectively while remaining flexible and responsive to new initiatives and changing requirements.
- Experience analyzing information and data to identify trends, develop solutions, and improve communications or outreach strategies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process and communications improvements.
- Previous experience supporting CDC programs, policies, procedures, or communications activities is preferred.
- Ability to obtain the required government security clearance.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Ability to work for extended periods at a desk and on a computer; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
