In this role, you will provide strategic guidance on import, export, customs, and sanctions compliance while partnering with cross-functional teams across supply chain, engineering, legal, finance, and project management. You will play a key role in mitigating regulatory risks, supporting complex international operations, and strengthening compliance programs that enable critical infrastructure projects worldwide. Accountabilities:
- Lead the implementation and execution of global trade compliance programs, internal policies, and standard operating procedures to ensure adherence to U.S. import, export, customs, and sanctions regulations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customs authorities and regulatory agencies, supporting audits, disclosures, inquiries, and regulatory communications.
- Advise business units and functional teams on import/export regulations, tariff classifications, restricted party screening, sanctions compliance, deemed export requirements, and licensing obligations.
- Oversee customs entry processes, tariff classifications, and trade compliance activities while supporting SAP GTS trade compliance workflows and internal control requirements.
- Partner with technical teams to support product, software, and technology classifications, including HTS and ECCN determinations.
- Deliver training, guidance, and compliance communications to improve awareness of evolving trade regulations and organizational responsibilities.
- Identify compliance risks, recommend corrective actions, strengthen internal controls, and drive continuous process improvements across trade compliance operations.
- Collaborate with supply chain, logistics, legal, finance, engineering, HR, IT, and project management teams to ensure compliant business operations across international markets.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Legal Studies, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in trade compliance, customs, export controls, import operations, sanctions compliance, or related regulatory functions.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations, customs requirements, export controls, sanctions programs, deemed export rules, and trade compliance governance.
- Experience advising cross-functional stakeholders within complex multinational organizations on trade compliance matters.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business guidance, policies, controls, and training.
- Hands-on experience with SAP GTS or similar global trade management systems.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and operational teams.
- Demonstrated experience supporting audits, managing compliance risks, driving corrective actions, and implementing sustainable process improvements.
- Professional certifications such as Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP), Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer, or similar credentials are considered a strong advantage.
- Experience in regulated industries such as manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, engineering, aerospace, or defense, along with familiarity with technology controls, export licensing, CTPAT, trade remedies, or customs audit preparation, is preferred.
