This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a .Net Software Engineering Team Lead based in South Africa.
This is a hands-on engineering leadership opportunity within a fast-paced financial technology environment serving customers across Africa. You will lead a small, high-performing team while remaining closely involved in technical decisions and software development. The role combines people leadership, architectural direction, delivery ownership, and continuous engineering improvement. You will help build secure, scalable financial services using modern .NET and cloud-native engineering practices. Working alongside product, business analysis, DevOps, and other technology teams, you will operate in an Agile/Scrum environment. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys mentoring others while still contributing directly to complex technical solutions.
Accountabilities
- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of approximately 2β5 software engineers, fostering trust, professional growth, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Own end-to-end software delivery, ensuring solutions satisfy business requirements while meeting quality, scalability, security, and performance expectations.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards across .NET Core, microservices, Domain-Driven Design, hexagonal architecture, CI/CD, testing, and related development practices.
- Provide hands-on technical contribution while balancing coding responsibilities with team leadership and delivery management.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, DevOps specialists, and other cross-functional teams within an Agile/Scrum framework.
- Identify technical and delivery bottlenecks and implement improvements across engineering processes, tooling, workflows, and development practices.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support individual development plans and career progression.
- Guide technical decisions and help the team deliver robust, maintainable, and scalable solutions for critical financial services.
- Promote strong ownership and accountability for software quality, delivery outcomes, and continuous technical improvement.
- Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Software Engineering Team Lead, or comparable technical leadership role.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop engineering talent.
- Deep hands-on expertise in .NET Core and microservices architecture.
- Strong knowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and hexagonal architecture.
- Solid experience with MySQL, including database design, optimization, and administration.
- Strong expertise in designing and developing secure, scalable RESTful APIs.
- Practical experience with Docker and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with Git and platforms such as GitHub or GitLab, including modern version-control workflows.
- Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
- Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies, with experience working with or leading Agile engineering teams.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong ownership, and a high level of accountability for technical quality and delivery.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment while balancing hands-on engineering responsibilities with people leadership.
