Position Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and financial reporting for the organization. This role ensures compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP), grant and fund accounting, and regulatory requirements. The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting functions, strengthen financial processes, and provide strategic financial insights to support the organization’s mission and growth. This position is remote three days per week.
Active passport required for Canada travel a few times a year.

Responsibilities:
- Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements and reports for leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Develop dashboards and financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Nonprofit & Fund Accounting
- Manage fund accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Oversee grant accounting, tracking, and reporting to ensure compliance with grantor requirements.
- Monitor program budgets and provide variance analysis.
- Support fundraising and development teams with financial reporting and donor reporting needs.
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting and reforecasting processes.
- Collaborate with department leaders to develop and manage budgets.
- Monitor cash flow and provide financial projections and scenario planning.
- Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls
- Manage the annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare and file IRS Form 990 and other required filings.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance and other grant regulations (if applicable).
- Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
- Improve and streamline accounting systems and workflows.
- Partner with executive leadership to support strategic initiatives and organizational growth.
