Medical Director - Skin/IO

Location: Remote with ~50% domestic and international travel

Shape the future of cancer care as a Medical Director, Skin/IO at Natera. In this strategic leadership role, you will provide medical expertise and scientific leadership across Natera’s oncology portfolio, with a focus on melanoma, cutaneous malignancies, and immunotherapy applications across solid tumors. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams in research, development, medical affairs, and commercial functions to ensure the scientific integrity and clinical adoption of Natera’s oncology testing solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Clinical Adoption:

• Lead the clinical strategy and evidence generation for melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancers, and pan-tumor immunotherapy indications.
• Partner closely with clinical development, medical affairs, and commercial teams to translate emerging evidence into meaningful clinical practice applications.
• Collaborate with key opinion leaders (KOLs), cooperative groups, and academic investigators to validate and expand clinical use cases for ctDNA-based diagnostics in immuno-oncology.
• Provide field-facing education and strategic guidance to healthcare providers, payers, and advocacy organizations on clinical utility, interpretation, and impact of MRD and response monitoring in immune-treated populations.
• Identify and address barriers to adoption by aligning evidence generation, messaging, and stakeholder engagement with evolving standards of care and health system needs.

Medical Education and Communication:

• Serve as the medical and scientific spokesperson for skin and immuno-oncology programs, communicating clinical utility, study data, and product value to external experts and stakeholders.
• Partner with commercial teams to develop educational resources, medical content, and scientific training for healthcare providers and internal teams.
• Provide scientific leadership during advisory boards, symposia, and investigator meetings.

Representation and Advocacy:

• Represent Natera at national and international oncology and immunotherapy conferences, fostering relationships with key opinion leaders in melanoma and IO.
• Promote a culture of scientific rigor and innovation within the medical affairs and R&D organizations.

Research and Development:

• Collaborate on clinical trial design, data analysis, and publication strategy related to ctDNA applications in melanoma and other immune-responsive solid tumors.
• Identify and cultivate academic and cooperative group partnerships to advance clinical validation and translational research in skin and pan-tumor immuno-oncology.

Key Skill Sets / Responsibilities:

Skin and Immuno-Oncology Expertise:

• Deep clinical knowledge of melanoma and cutaneous oncology, including evolving standards of care, targeted therapy, and checkpoint inhibitor use.
• Expertise in immunotherapy mechanisms, response kinetics, and biomarker development across multiple solid tumor types.
• Provide expert medical guidance on immunotherapy-specific diagnostic development and clinical implementation.

Comprehensive Oncology Knowledge:

• Ability to engage across tumor types to support Natera’s broad oncology portfolio.
• Maintain awareness of emerging trends in liquid biopsy, precision medicine, and immune response monitoring.

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration:

• Work collaboratively with research, development, commercial, and medical affairs to align medical strategy with business objectives.
• Partner with regulatory and clinical operations teams to ensure compliance, data quality, and clinical relevance.

Qualifications:

• MD. or D.O. degree with board certification in Medical Oncology (required).
• At least 5 years of experience in oncology, with clinical or research experience in melanoma, skin cancers, or immunotherapy (preferred).
• Strong publication or clinical trial background in immuno-oncology or translational oncology research (preferred).
• Associate or full Medical Director designation commensurate with experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to rapidly learn Natera’s molecular testing technologies and apply clinical judgment to evaluate and communicate their relevance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including scientific presentation and education.
• Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with commercial, R&D, and clinical teams.
• Understanding of immuno-oncology trial design, translational endpoints, and regulatory considerations.
• Effective project management and ability to balance multiple high-impact initiatives.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to build consensus across functions.
