WMAQ-TV, NBC 5 Chicago, has an opportunity for a News Assignment Editor responsible for handling a variety of News assignment desk operations. WMAQ-TV is an owned and operated television station of NBCUniversal in Chicago.
JOB DUTIES:
- Coordinate reporters, photographers, and crews for assigned news coverage
- Set up live shots and plan stories in collaboration with producers and managers
- Build relationships with outside news contacts to gather accurate information
- Work with reporters and producers to shape stories and coordinate cross-department efforts
- Help with daily and future story planning to support newsroom goals
- Monitor scanners, wires, and online/print sources for breaking news
- Field produce and conduct interviews when needed
- Gather info and cut video for use in newscasts
- Pitch ideas and contribute content for digital platforms
- Make calls to gather info and help book interviews
- Produce, write, edit, and publish news stories for all WMAQ’s news platforms, including broadcast, website, streaming channels, and OTT apps
- Add content to our digital and social platforms in conjunction with our dedicated digital content team
- Bachelor’s Degree or related years of experience
- Minimum 2 year of experience working on a television News Assignment Desk
- Some previous work experience requiring organization and research skills.
- Must be able to work all shifts; overnights, nights and weekends included
- Must be willing to work in severe weather emergencies and/or extended news coverage
- Must have the ability to organize and manage priorities under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations; must have the ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to change
- Knowledge and understanding of various media platforms
- Pioneering spirit with a desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future

Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000
