Full-time📈 Mid Level💰 $85,000 – $100,000🇺🇸 San Jose, USA📅 Sep 1, 2026

NBC Bay Area is looking for an experienced, energetic morning show producer who understands what viewers need when they wake up and knows how to deliver it with urgency, creativity, and personality.

Morning news is about getting people ready for their day. That means delivering the latest news, breaking developments, weather and traffic, while also creating a show that feels fresh, relevant, engaging and connected to the Bay Area community.

We’re looking for someone who loves producing morning news and comes to work ready to make the show better every day. You should be an aggressive news producer who knows how to handle the show when breaking news happens, make smart editorial decisions quickly, and keep viewers informed as a story develops.

We’re looking for someone who already has a few years of daily newscast producing experience and is ready for more. Someone who wants to grow, experiment, innovate and help us make our morning newscast smarter and more useful to the Bay Area.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce a fast-paced, informative and engaging morning newscast that helps Bay Area viewers start their day.
  • Build smart, compelling rundowns that prioritize the latest news, breaking developments, weather, traffic and stories that matter to our communities.
  • Aggressively respond to breaking news, including quickly restructuring the newscast and adjusting coverage as stories develop.
  • Write clear, conversational and accurate copy under tight deadlines.
  • Work closely with anchors, reporters, assignment editors, weather, traffic, digital teams and production crews to execute a strong, cohesive broadcast.
  • Constantly look for ways to make the newscast more useful, interesting and distinctive.
  • Find creative ways to showcase important stories rather than simply relying on traditional formats.
  • Incorporate digital, streaming and social content into the morning news workflow.
  • Make strong editorial decisions quickly and confidently while maintaining NBC Bay Area’s standards for accuracy and fairness.
  • Bring energy, ideas and enthusiasm to the newsroom—even in the very early morning hours.

What We’re Looking For

  • A producer who understands the unique needs and habits of a morning audience.
  • A strong news producer who knows how to recognize a big story and aggressively pursue it.
  • Someone who thrives during breaking news and remains calm, decisive and accurate when the rundown changes quickly.
  • A producer who understands that weather and traffic are essential parts of a successful morning newscast and knows how to integrate them effectively throughout the show.
  • A creative thinker who wants to experiment with new storytelling, formats and ways to connect with viewers.
  • Strong editorial judgment and excellent news writing skills.
  • Someone who is curious and/or knowledgeable about the Bay Area and wants to serve the local community.
  • A collaborative team player who communicates well and understands that producing a successful morning show requires everyone working together.
  • Someone who wants to grow as a producer, take on more responsibility and contribute ideas that make the entire morning team better.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of regular newscast producing experience in a television newsroom.
  • Proven experience building rundowns and producing live newscasts.
  • Demonstrated experience handling breaking news and making editorial decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent writing, organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong editorial judgment and commitment to accuracy.

Preferred

  • Experience producing morning news.
  • Experience in a mid-to-large market newsroom.
  • Familiarity with the Bay Area and its communities.
  • Experience producing content for streaming, digital and social platforms.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Additional Requirements

  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
  • Must be comfortable working overnight and early-morning hours.
  • Must be flexible to work weekends, holidays and extended hours when breaking news requires.
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S.
