The US Regional GM is responsible for leading the strategic direction and operations within their geographic region. They will lead the cross-functional coordination, collaboration and execution to bring apitegromab to patients and families living with SMA.
This is a unique opportunity to lead strategic regional execution for the first commercial launch for Scholar Rock. If approved, apitegromab will be the first and only muscle-targeted treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
This regional leadership role will build and direct high-performing, cross-functional teams responsible for bringing this innovative therapy to patients, starting with its lead indication in SMA. This role will have accountability for ensuring collaboration between all team members to ensure those living with SMA are optimally served. This requires exceptional leadership, deep launch expertise, a profound understanding of market trends, customer insights, and the competitive landscape, as well as a deep understanding of each of the cross functional roles effectively position Scholar Rock and the brand for exponential growth.
The Regional General Manager role will lead the operational execution of the cross-functional team of medical affairs, patient services, clinical specialists, reimbursement, and neuromuscular specialists within a specific geographical region.
Regional Strategy Responsibilities:
- Crafting a cohesive regional go-to-market strategy for apitegromab that resonates with the target audience and distinguishes the organization from competitors.
- Adapting and implementing business plans to achieve performance goals, often involving regional business reviews with senior leadership.
- Understanding the specific market landscape and trends within the region to optimize business strategy.
- Developing and implementing long-term strategies for growth and expansion within the region.
- Developing and implementing regional plans to achieve business objectives within the rare disease therapeutic area.
- Gathering and analyzing market data and insights to identify opportunities and adapt strategies.
Operational Execution & Launch Excellence:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive regional launch strategy that ensures precision, excellence, and market impact
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Medical Affairs, Patient Services and Distribution, Business Operations, Market Access, Human Resources, Compliance, Legal and Patient Advocacy
- Lead a customer-facing team to build strong relationships with healthcare providers, KOLs, and other key stakeholders
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), and other stakeholders within the region.
- Managing and growing key accounts within the region
- Navigate the complex US access environment with innovative approaches and patient services and support to ensure optimal patient access
- Ensuring stakeholder satisfaction and addressing any issues within the region
- Ensuring that all activities and interactions comply with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Business Performance & Financial Management:
- Develop and oversee financial plans for the region, including revenue maximization and budget management.
- Deliver on key performance indicators for appropriate KOL/HCP interactions, market access, sales, and market share
- Ensure operational efficiency across all aspects of the region
- Allocate resources strategically to maximize impact and ROI
People Leadership & Development:
- Build and inspire high-performing, cross-functional teams that drive innovation, excellence, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Motivate, empower and coach the team within the region, delegating tasks and ensuring they meet performance expectations.
- Mentor regional team members to drive performance and development.
- Foster strong partnerships across functions to ensure aligned objectives and seamless implementation
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree + a minimum of 10 years of overall progressive experience in Pharmaceutical/Biotech and rare disease experience is required
- Experience leading cross-functional teams (e.g, marketing, sales, market access, patient services, clinical specialty or medical, other) is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in sales leadership with experience and exposure to other critical functions within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. Leadership of other functions preferred.
- Exceptional leadership ability to lead and motivate teams, set clear goals, and deliver performance. Strong leadership and team management skills are essential for motivating and empowering teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
- Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, communication, enterprise leadership and ability to develop and execute operational plans, adapt to changing market conditions, and identify opportunities.
- Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, particularly within the rare disease space, the US market and fluency with market access and payer dynamics.
- Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Experience navigating complex regulatory and compliance environments.
- Innovative mindset with ability to drive transformation while delivering results.
