About Skylight
Skylight is a digital consultancy using design and technology to help government agencies deliver better public services. We’re at the forefront of a civic movement to reinvent how all levels of government serve families, patients, and many others in today's digital world.
If you want to play a part in driving this critical movement forward, we’d love for you to join our growing team of public interest technologists. The work we do matters.
About the job
As Skylight grows, we are strengthening the internal systems that support our people, projects, and mission. These systems — spanning HR, contracts, delivery context, knowledge, and operational workflows — must be clear, dependable, and able to evolve as the organization scales.
As a Senior Service Designer, Internal Systems & Workflows, you will play a critical role in designing and improving how Skylight operates internally. You will work across teams to understand current-state processes, identify breakdowns and opportunities, and design future-state workflows that are practical, usable, and scalable.
This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can move quickly from understanding to action — mapping complex systems, partnering with executive and operational stakeholders, and translating evolving organizational needs into workflows, tools, and artifacts that teams can actually use.
You will collaborate closely with Operations and Organizational Design, contributing design judgment, systems thinking, and real-world feedback that helps internal standards and coordination patterns take shape through delivery.
What you’ll do
- Map end-to-end internal workflows across areas such as HR, contracts, staffing, delivery, and knowledge management
- Partner with operational and executive stakeholders to understand current-state processes, constraints, and priorities
- Design future-state workflows that improve clarity, reliability, and efficiency while aligning with organizational goals
- Create and maintain system artifacts such as workflow diagrams, service blueprints, forms, templates, and supporting documentation
- Translate requirements, policies, and system constraints into clear, usable internal tools and experiences
- Work closely with Operations, People Ops, Contracts, Finance, and IT to implement workflow improvements
- Identify recurring friction, gaps, or failure points and propose concrete, actionable improvements
- Support automation and tooling initiatives by shaping workflows, validating usability, and ensuring solutions are maintainable
- Contribute to internal knowledge systems by improving structure, consistency, and reuse
- Support adoption of new or updated workflows through walkthroughs, reviews, and iterative refinement
- Bring delivery insights and operational feedback into ongoing conversations about how internal systems and standards should evolve
