Truemed·about 1 month ago
Truemed lets health and wellness brands accept HSA/FSA funds at checkout. We sit directly in the merchant's payment flow — across Shopify, BigCommerce, and custom integrations — handle the Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) and compliance workflow behind the scenes, and get partners live in days, not months. Thousands of brands already run on our infrastructure, and the integration surface is one of the most strategically important parts of the company: it's where revenue, merchant experience, and compliance all meet.
The Merchants & Integrations team owns the integration surface. This is the team that builds and maintains our payment app, our merchant-facing APIs, and the integrations that connect Truemed to the e-commerce platforms and payment gateways our partners already use. The work is equal parts deep systems engineering — the data model, payment flows, gateway behavior across platforms — and direct contact with the merchants and partners who depend on it.
We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead this team directly. We're looking for someone who is close enough to the code and the data model to lead technically, and comfortable enough in front of customers to represent engineering on sales and integration calls.
This is not a hands-off, purely-process management role. You'll set direction and grow the team, but you'll also need to go deep — on our existing data model, on how payment gateways behave across the industry, and on the specifics of getting a given merchant integrated cleanly. The strongest candidate is someone who has been an excellent IC or tech lead in payments or integrations and wants to lead a team without leaving the technical and customer-facing work behind.
Lead the team. Manage, mentor, and grow the engineers on Merchants & Integrations — hiring, career development, performance, and day-to-day direction.
Own the integration surface. Be accountable for the reliability, quality, and roadmap of our merchant-facing APIs, payment app, and platform integrations.
Stay technical. Maintain real working context on the data model and payment flows. Review design and architecture decisions, unblock the team on hard problems, and weigh in with credibility — not just process.
Be customer-facing when it counts. Join sales calls and integration calls. Translate between what a merchant needs and what's technically feasible, scope integrations, and represent engineering to partners and prospects.
Partner cross-functionally. Work closely with Sales, Partnerships, Product, and the rest of Engineering to make sure the integration experience is fast, compliant, and a genuine differentiator.
Raise the bar on delivery. Improve how the team plans, ships, and supports its work, with an eye toward the "live in days" speed that sets Truemed apart."
Experience managing a software engineering team, and a track record as a senior IC / tech lead in payments or integrations who is ready to step into management.
Strong technical depth in backend systems, APIs, and data modeling — enough to lead design discussions and earn the team's trust on the hard problems.
Hands-on familiarity with payments and/or e-commerce integration work: payment gateways, checkout flows, and the realities of integrating with third-party platforms.
Comfort being customer-facing — you can hold a technical integration conversation with a merchant or sit on a sales call and represent engineering well.
The judgment to balance speed, reliability, and compliance in a domain where all three matter.
Experience at a payments company such as Affirm, Square, Stripe, or Braintree — or a comparable fintech / payments environment.
Direct familiarity with the platforms and gateways in our world: Shopify Payments and the Shopify payment gateway model, BigCommerce, and similar.
Exposure to regulated or compliance-heavy payment flows.
Experience scaling an integrations or partner-engineering team.
Experience with Python/Django/Postgres
