The Health Systems and Policy Research Collaborative Centre at the University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Research Associate I to support the Centre’s research and operational activities. This role is well suited to an individual who enjoys working at the intersection of research, partnerships, and program administration, and who has a passion for driving impact across the health system. This position will support the Centre’s business and partnership development activities while also contributing to the design, coordination, and execution of health systems and policy research projects under the direction of the Centre’s Manager, Scientific Associate, and affiliated Scientists.
The Health Systems and Policy Research Collaborative Centre was established as part of UHN’s commitment to fostering collaboration across high-priority health systems research areas, empowering teams to address complex health challenges, and strengthening UHN’s leadership and partnerships in these fields. Its mission is to build an inclusive and collaborative research community across UHN, while developing strong partnerships to support the translation of research into evidence-informed policies and practices that drive meaningful and lasting health system transformation.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Research Project Support and Analysis
- Execute health systems and policy research projects, including economic evaluations, under the direction of the Scientific Associate and affiliated Scientists.
- Contribute to project designs including health economic evaluations (e.g., cost-effectiveness, budget impact) by defining research objectives, preparing datasets, supporting model development, and analyses.
- Plan, implement, and coordinate data collection for research studies.
- Perform data analyses including the application of statistical or qualitative synthesis techniques as appropriate.
- Interpret results and prepare reports, presentation, abstracts, draft manuscripts, and contribute to grant applications.
- Conduct literature searches and reviews relevant to ongoing and proposed research projects.
- Perform study-related administrative tasks, including documentation, research ethics application, coordination, and reporting requirements.
Centre Operations, Partnerships, and Business Support
- Support the planning and coordination of Centre activities, including rounds, workshops, meetings, and other engagement events.
- Assist with special projects that support the Centre’s strategic and operational objectives.
- Maintain and organize an inventory of Centre partners, proposals, presentations, and other business development or partnership-related materials.
- Support tracking and coordination of partnership activities, proposals, and opportunities in collaboration with Centre leadership.
- Liaise with contacts across multiple healthcare organizations, academic institutions, and partner organizations in Ontario and across Canada to support the implementation and ongoing activities of the Centre.
- Contribute to the promotion and visibility of the Centre by supporting relationship-building activities with current and prospective partners.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Centre’s website and other publicly shared materials, ensuring content is accurate and up to date.
- Work with the Centre team to identify, document, and improve internal processes to support efficient program management, data capture, and reporting.
- Master’s degree in health systems and policy research, public health, health services research, epidemiology, or a related discipline; or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of related research experience, including experience with data management and analysis.
- Applied knowledge of health systems and policy research methods, health economics, modeling and statistical analysis
- Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis using standard software (e.g., Excel, R, SAS, TreeAge, NVivo, or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines and with external partners.
- Ability to exercise judgment and problem-solving skills within established research and operational frameworks.
